I am deeply confused as to what any of those pics (nice as they are) has to do with wind or mountains or questions...

I don't have pictures of myself driving up mountain grades, but I wanted to show how I've used my Jeeps. Also, most people love pictures :). I don't know a dealer that will let me hook up a trailer and drive it over an hour one way to see how the 2.0L does, regardless of tire size, so I am asking the community. Thanks for reading and enjoying the images good sir.

I couldn't help but notice your decision making based on relationships. Life's too short for that shit.
Rule #1 is you are #1.
Do what you want. If she doesn't like it then it wasn't meant to be.

It did influence me, but I'd not be the first guy who made a 'poor' decision on a woman or potential woman! The one I ended up finding is supportive of what ever I decide. Kinda like her.

Total tangent from your post - cute dog! Do you ever worry about wild life when letting your small dog off leash while camping? Only ask because I've had large dogs my whole life and never had a reason to worry about it - for the most part - but now have a little French bulldog/pug mix and wonder if he's at risk being able to roam around the campsite.

First of all, Olympic Peninsula?...

Secondly, 2 vs 4 door. Can't help you there - I'm the philistine that went 4-door and have no regrets. The Wrangler is small as is and having a little extra space for the wife, dog, camping chairs, fridges, etc. is well worth the slightly less nimble maneuverability on tight trails. If garage space and money were unlimited I'd probably have a Gladiator and 2-door too. The JLU is the perfect solution for me.

Thirdly, the real questions it seems you're wondering: Extreme Recon, manual transmission, 4.88's, 2-door vs. 4-door, towing: (this is all opinion, btw...)

JLR 6-Speed: If you're thinking about it, just do it. You're either a MT guy or you're not. Sounds like you are. They're getting the clutch thing figured out. I honestly don't know what all the fuss is about. Such a small percentage of vehicles have problems it seems like a non issue. But if mine were one of the few suffering failure it would be an issue.

Towing: I imagine the JLU will be better for towing due to its longer wheel base and heavier weight. But I'm sure the 2-door is capable of towing just fine too.

Regarding engine advantages to towing, that's tougher. The pep of the 2.0 might be nice getting heavy loads going, vs. the comparatively less torque at lower speeds of the 3.6. But - you speak of your forever Jeep. Don't want to get into a fight with anyone, but there are those who question the longevity of the 2.0 vs. the (tried & true) 3.6. I can't help wondering how well the 2.0 will hold up over time, towing... probably will depend on how much and how heavy.

Strong winds: it's tough to say whether tire size would make a difference or not. Either size won't dissuade wind against the high profile box. I'd imagine 35's will feel more planted than smaller tires. When I went from tiny 31's on my Sport S to 315's there was a world of difference. He just tracked and drove better in all scenarios.

4.88's: yes. Just do it. The Jeep is spry again and it's awesome.

Lastly, I don't know if the Extreme Recon package is available in 2-door...? I'll say this: the XR package wasn't available when I bought mine (I don't think, at least). And if it were I'd have (foolishly) opted out of it. But - I then essentially XR'd my Sport S at a much higher cost. I love it - but it would have been less expensive buying the XR package originally.
Just saying...

Good luck - and give Sol Duc Falls a wave for me.

Peace, JBC

A second for the Olympic Peninsula. It's very under rated and not well known. I lived in Port Angeles in the 90s and it was fantastic. My profile pic was taken not far from Port Angeles with my daughter who was about 6 at the time.

He belongs to ex-wife #2. She was PCS's OCONUS for two years and I dog sat during that time. He was a paper bearing Yorkie with a cool personality. I kept an eye on him, and he either slept in the Jeep or with me (weather depending). When wondering out and about when remote camping, I would put him on a leash.

Good info, thanks. Nice pictures. Yes, love western WA for the nature, but avoid a mail box there due to politics.

Well, I have decided that I'll sell some stuff and 'work harder' so I can obtain a 2 door again. It will be the 3.6L and 6spd, and I'll add the Mopar 2" lift and 35s. Will order with the 4.88s.

Aside from Uconnect changes, I am happy with my JLR-X XR thus far. Will do the picture sharing thing later this week. Driving the mountain passes with the 2.0L is a blast. I do miss the MPGs of the EcoDiesel, but with only 2,300 miles on the 2.0L in three weeks it still has break-in to do.

At elevation the 2.0 will definitely outperform the V6 (the wonders of turbocharging). I’ve been an MT guy for decades, but that 8sp auto is awfully slick
