It's a Jeep badge of honor, isn't it implied that it has to be earned with a Jeep? You have to put in a Jeep vin number in the app. What's next, move them to your new Bronco? You also drive the wife's Subaru, why not put the badges on there since you were the driver of the Jeep that earned them? Most of the trails are incredibly easy anyway. If you want to keep your Peter's mil badge like it was some great accomplishment to right ahead. Conversely if you slap your Pritchett Canyon or Rubicon trail badge on your new renegade you look like an idiot even if YOU EARNED IT in another Jeep.
I've always been of the opionion that the driver earned the badge so they go with the driver. I took all my badges off my `21 before selling it. But this opinion is based on the assumption that "the next" Jeep isn't going to be a downgrade in capability. I mean, what's the point?

But you make a great point. If someone moves from a built up beast to a stripped Sport, or something other than a Jeep, then the badges should definitely not be placed on the new vehicle. A Jeep badge on a Bronco would just be tacky in my mind.

So my clarified opinion is that it's perfectly fine for someone to remove badges they earned when getting rid of the Jeep. But they should only place them on a Jeep (must have) of equal or greater capability.

Hmm well that just knocked another 1k off the value of my Jeep. 😂

I'm a bit concerned if I remove my badges it'll take the wrap up with them. 🤦‍♀️
Good point! But that's just another reason not to sell it. With all the badges you have, you could throw them on the axle as reinforcement.

But seriously, I hope you're able to find a decent deal on a Rubi take off axle.

I can’t agree due to tradition. Victory markings are the plane’s (Jeep’s) , not the pilot’s (driver’s) see pg 7, post 104 for more details…. Keep and display them somewhere other than on the side of the new Jeep.

Yes, I know that victory/kill markings on fighters remain with the plane and don't go with the pilot. I've known that since I was a kid. My uncle flew an F4 back in the day. One year he flew his F4 to Minneapolis for an airshow. I spent the day with him at the airshow. While he was there some guy (Air Force) approached him and talked to him about is F4. The guy was researching the plane to determine if it had shot down a Mig in Viet Nam. He was investigating a specific event trying to determine if my Uncle's F4 was missing a red star. My uncle was not the pilot at the time of the event; he was a navigator on a B52 in Viet Nam. But he explained to me that kill markings go with the plane not the pilot.

We aren't flying figher planes, but I guess I see the analogy. To me, a badge is a memory, or in some cases represent an accomplishment. When I sold my Jeep I wasn't about to leave the badges for the next owner. Those are my memories, they can go make their own.

I've not yet mounted my badges from my old Jeep on my new one. Aside from one, I don't know that I will. For all but one, I'll likely just complete the trails in my new Jeep and get a new badge. Or if they wont send me another badge (some say you only get one), then I'll mount the ones I already have.

The one I earned with my old Jeep that I'll probably just mount on my new one is Mesabi Mountain Trail, in MN. That was the last badge trail I completed in my old Jeep and I never actually mounted it. I don't know that I'll ever get back to do that one because I live in CO now. Mesabi Mountain is a really good trail and I highly recommend it to anyone who is in the area or will be driving through, but 1300 miles is a long way to drive with very little in between, to drive for a single badge.

I think this may be because at least some, maybe all in a combat theater, don't or didn't used to, assign airplanes to pilots. I watched an interview of a WW2 Black Sheep Squadron pilot and made a point of that in the interview. It probably had as much to do with the maintenance and airworthiness of a particular plane on any given day.

That makes sense.

Jeep tradition and heritage analogy ?

Half the boh trails could be run in a Honda civic, comparing them to victory/kill markings is comedy to me. It's like looking at the north Korean military with an entire chest full of medals. Never been in a single battle or even left the country but they are badged up. Personally I wouldn't put a badge on a Jeep that hadn't run that trail, but I still argue they are earned by both the driver and the Jeep.

I actually agree, as did the post I was responding too that gave suggestions for displaying your badges other than on the side of the new Jeep you didn’t earn the badges with. … no, the analogy wasn’t exact …. but you could let a friend or relative earn a badge with and for your Jeep.

If I wasn't at least there I don't think I'd put the badge on the Jeep. As others have said, they are more about the memories and the conversations they bring up when people are looking at them. How was the Rubicon trail? "No idea my son took the Jeep on that trip"...

Does any of this really matter? There's no rules, no enforcement, no published etiquette, no or little social pressure. Basically, they are yours to do with whatever you want.

Does it really matter to me how you mod your rig, what oil you run, how you feel about the 3.6L, what lift kit you like best, or any of the million other things we discuss on this forum? Not really, but I enjoy sharing my perspective on all things Jeep and reading others different viewpoints. Obviously there's no honor in the BOH program when you can buy them on ebay or drive around in your prius and check in at trailheads or even spoof your location and "earn" them all from your mom's basement.
