Question on a jl hard top conversion about sccm clock spring

It is a b!tch and $$ to install a hard top on a factory soft top Jeep. If you think you will ever want a hard top, buy it from the factory with the top. Good job getting it done, it is expensive and time consuming...

I've done it. It was pretty easy, and pretty cheap (used).
However, I didn't care about the defrost or rear wiper because the soft top doesn't have them. So that saved a fortune. Ran it this way about 6 months and then sold the hard top.
OP good on you for going the distance. I thought dealers were doing this for a few hundred bucks, but I'm sure prices are up.

In June of 2022, everybody I checked with wanted $2000 just to install the wiring. The clock spring replacement, is a big deal. I don't like taking new vehicles apart as I am not really mechanically inclined. I will do other maintenance and probably could do it myself, but not something I want to do. Since I have the Trailer and Tow package, and the Aux switches, I thought about just wiring the wiper and defroster to the Aux switches. But I decided to sell my 2022 Sahara and buy a 2023 Reign Rubicon with a hard top...

That is the harness for the steering wheel airbag. How does a 3 piece hardtop require this?

Because of the rear wiper switch on the right stalk....soft tops don't have that control.

Was it just a matter of releasing the plastic clips around the edge and swapping over? I'm half expecting the thing to be under spring tension and go flying around the garage.

it's been a while but iirc yes, just be careful not to snap any clips, nothing came out flying out

Update: confirmed to just be a few clips. It was no big deal.
