I understand that it's supposed to be "locked" when in low range. But that's my very point....it isn't. There are still clutches. And clutches do slip. Ram 1500 and Rubicon 392 owners have both complained about this issue; the transfer case overheats quickly and then you've got NO four wheel drive. And in my case, it took less than 30 seconds to get there.Yeah it's a "package" with those leather seats, but that "package" is an option and not tied to other major packages like the recon package.
You can get the leather seats and get the heated seats without the recon or X package
Sorry, I've had the opposite experience.
Connect up your JSCAN and watch the clutch application - they are basically locked in with the low range.
Plus - this is for my wife - she's got a handicap, birth defect, she's NOT ABLE to shift the transfer case constantly.
I would much rather have a chain driven case that I know isn't going to fail in the middle of a winter storm. If it's treacherous out, there is no need for "constant" shifting. Put it in 4-high and roll. When the pavement is dry again, whether it be 3 hours or 3 days, shift back to 2-high. Easy peasy.
Having said that, you have a very good reason to buy exactly what your wife wants, so by all means that's exactly what you should do.
