I hear this Devon, but of the 10% of buyers you site that want a solution, I'd imagine that only a small percentage run front cameras that prevent installation of the MOPAR or Bolt solutions.

It's not a lock, but would you consider getting a JL Tazer? I think they can use the panic button off the fob in a way that sounds the alarm of someone pops the hood. And of course the product has many other features as well.

Sure---it's not a lock though, just a noise maker.....and we all know how effective those are (not).

Good luck.
Your correct, many will not have the front camera but I can also state it's not an easy task to install the lock. I did it once and it does require some tools and patience. A locking latch would be much less work. I will look into a JL Tazer.

I was nervous about leaving the hood on my first jeep unsecured. After the first month, I stopped worrying about it. Nothing ever happened.

Can someone supply a link to a JL Tazer that will turn on this functionality?

Looks like the ones I just purchased. Made out of some type of plastic vs metal and a round style locking mechanism. I think I paid $40 and a very low expectation but like I said in the opening, there isn't much to choose from. As soon as a high quality option abounds, you will see everything rushing to try it out. Word gets out fast.
The lock cylinders in the Sukemichi JL Hood Latches uses a double sided flat key. Also the slot in the lock cylinder has a dust cover. :)

I wonder if nobody has looked into a camera relocation bracket so you could put it below the lock or something.

If this was done, the front bumper would block the bottom the the view on the screen.

I also have the OEM front trail cam. I wanted locking side hood latches that looked factory. I purchased a pair from Amazon and they lasted 4 weeks before the torsional spring on the latch bar broke. I purchased a similar design from Amazon, but a different brand with a barrel style lock cylinder, and the second set lasted about 6 weeks before one of the lock cylinders jammed. So I went from 4 weeks to failure to 6 weeks to failure, so I am moving in the right direction. I purchased a 3rd hood lock set from Amazon. The brand was Sukemichi JL Hood Latches. I do not know how long they will last, but it has been about 15 weeks so far. This is a world record for me!

Thanks for the link. I was unaware of this particular hood lock. I tried the Rampage ones but didn't like how close they were to my painted fenders. I ended up taking them off and going back to stock. I think I'll give these a try.

Thank you! In the list, it says "
– Hood Alarm – When the vehicle theft alarm is armed, monitors hood activity and will sound
the alarm and flash light shows if opened. "

How is this achieved?

Stock: I've tested this after vehicle is armed and open the hood. Nothing happens.

@Iowa_Wrangler

By chance, have you also enabled the Tazer JL feature that disables panic button alarm?

Sorry, I don't own a Tazer yet, just wondering what triggers the alarm if it's set using a Tazer.
@Iowa_Wrangler

There is a dedicated plunger under the hood of a JL that deals with / allows the JL's computer(s) to know that the hood is open. If hood is open the plunger is not compressed the JL's computer is made aware lets say...

Remote Start as an example, will not proceed if the hood plunger is not compressed... is a/one function of this one plunger.

Apparently, the Tazer JL in simple terms, monitors this one plunger after the JL has been locked and it's security system has been monitored..

SOooo, if the Tazer JL, hood alarm feature is enabled.... if you or some thief, etc., open the hood.... the plunger is allowed to come up and the vehicle's security system is then activated.....(Horn blowing, etc.) .........just as if you had opened a door on the JL without deactivating the vehicle's security system.... that you had earlier set with your fob button push.

Frankly, I find it odd that it's not part of the security system. Oh well, I guess I have to spend another $300. :)

@Iowa_Wrangler

You'll easily recoop the $ you spend on a Tazer JL when you eventually resell that Tazer JL when you blow off your Wrangler.. You will be able to eventually resell the unmarried Tazer JL for just over $200....

With that said you will gain all the terrific features a Tazer JL gets you, you'll enjoy those features for a year or more and all at a final cost in the end of say $150.00 or less.
