Push to start

Tried searching but can’t seem to find an answer...just wondering when you go to start the Jeep, when you push the button do you have to hold it for a second (About same length of cranking a mechanical key) or can you just give it a quick push and it starts right up.

My wife has a 2013 grand Cherokee and you can just push it quick. Same went for an sti that I used to have. The Wrangler I have to hold it for a second. Just want to make sure this is the normal process. Thank you

Hmm, I usually hold the button for a second. As in, till it starts. I guess I've never tried doing it very quickly. This is my first push to start vehicle, so guess I'm not really much help... Someone will chime in tho

Sort of, the automatic has “tip start” just push the button once and it will start without further interaction. On the manual transmission you have to hold the button down till it starts.

The Sport models i believe you have to hold as it turns over, but I know the Rubicon you can give it a quick push and it'll do the rest.

It’s the same across all Wranglers.

Mine is a manual rubicon. So hopefully it is completely normal then! Just wanted to make sure. Thanks for the replies.

We have a turbo auto sport. Push on brake and start button and vrooooommmm

Yeah, this is the correct answer. Funny thing about tip-start... my wife’s 4Runner has it and for some reason she can’t just push the button- she insists on holding it down like in my jeep (JLR with manual trans). I like the tip-start in the 4R but really don’t care that my Rubicon doesn’t do it; manual trans is far more important to me.
