Did the Health Department test it? An opossum carrying rabies actually would be incredibly rare. Their body temperature is too low for the virus to replicate properly.

Nope, I didn’t try to catch it, and it was gone later. They did say that it wasn’t Common for them to carry Rabies in our area, but certainly didn’t claim that they couldn’t.
Rabies, isn’t very common in Oregon in general, several years ago, the county health department, said that state wide, less than 10% of bats carry rabies, and my particular area is only 3-5% for bats.
Rabies is no joking matter.
