Fire bans don't include propane-fueled flames?

Legit Q. Just wondering if this is an allowable workaround.
I think it depends on the place and what level of ban. There are some places in CA right now that are on a full ban which means not even propane fire pits or open flames of any kind. Some places are just under fire restrictions meaning no wood fires but you can use propane.

That was my guess: that it was a matter of degrees (pun not intended.)

On many if not most Western public lands, traditional fire ban rules allow gas flames for cooking stoves and lanterns. Often there's a stipulation the device be elevated above ground in some manner, usually by at least inches (think backpacking stove). That's one reason (extendable) legs and grill tops are added to many portable propane fire pits - to comply with the letter and ostensibly ignore the spirit of the law.

Well they didn't answer my initial question of whether or not this is normal BUT they did say they were sending me a new regulator free of charge.
I just heard back this morning and LavaBox rep confirmed that it should be maintaining levels without having to turn it up. I'll report back once I get the new regulator if that fixes the issue.

That's pretty cool. I'd buy one if I hadn't already bought the LavaBox.
I love it because it is versatile and super small and light weight packed up.

I got my new regulator and same issue. I've reached out to LavaBox to see if they have any other ideas. Hopefully this issue can be fixed. Otherwise I think I'm going to get rid of this thing and buy something else than can maintain a flame. I'm pretty disappointed since I did so much research before deciding to buy the LavaBox. 😢

I would just build my own( I think I posted mine months ago that I built myself) if I did it again using the Tacticool kit (check my link below). I built my own using Amazon parts, which throws the most impressive flame I have seen and can freeze a 20lb propane bottle over if you leave it flowing WTFO. Honestly, I have heard many people (on overland and camping FB groups) complaining about the lavabox and it's BTU output and flame output.....here's the link to the kit if you are interested. They handled all the trial and error I dealt with.

Interesting. I had read up on it but I'm not part of any Facebook groups so didn't read anything negative. I guess I'll see what they respond back and if it's not fixable hopefully they will let me return it. I think I paid $225 for this thing.

Yeah, they are the most expensive of the Ammo Can pits....but I have seen the most negative feedback about them (which was why I just went for it one-weekend last year). Building one will cost you 60 bucks with the kit and an ammo can(10-20 bucks) and your time.

Good luck, hopefully, they get you squared away.

Was in the same issue where you have to keep turning the flame up every 8-10 minutes?
