What do you do if you can't stake into the ground?
I don't.

Sorry for the flippant response but it's true. I have used it without stakes. Just being careful not to trip over the hose.

My wife bought one of these Amazon.com : Outland Living Firebowl 883 Mega Outdoor Propane Gas Fire Pit with UV and Weather Resistant Durable Cover, 24-Inch Diameter 58,000 BTU : Patio, Lawn & Garden for me as a gift. It would die down after an hour or so. Tried some parlor tricks like heating the tank, turning it over, etc. Nothing really worked for long.

I read up some on the issue. Evidently, a two-stage regulator is the cure. I bought this one and used it for a couple late night parties and recently on the East Mojave Heritage Trail trip for 3 nights. It has been working very well. Amazon.com : 12 FT F273684 Propane Hose with Regulator Compatible with mr Heater F273684 Big Buddy Heaters, Two Stage Propane Regulator with Hose for RV, Gill, Gas Stove,3/8in Female x 3/8in Male Street Elbow : Patio, Lawn & Garden
