2021 Jeep JLU Diesel 41k miles. AC is not blowing cold air. I took it to a local mechanic shop for a quote. They said the AC compressor is not working. Has anyone else needed to replace their AC compressor? Curious to see if this quote is legit. I'll be taking it to the dealership tomorrow. I didn't get any extended warranty.

I'm an old schooler, but that seems totally our of the question. What is a complete kit? The lower price must be for a half ass job and the higher to actually fix it. Put it this way---I had a tooth break off. Got a quote for $7300.00 to fix it. Got the job done for $300. Bet the dealer wants $10K.

Woah, they're getting $256/lb for R-1234YF? Really?
$2017 for the compressor? At the Rock, they want $476 for the Mopar part.
2 hours of shop labor for "A/C service" which I figure is the labor to pull a vacuum and recharge is just wild.

I do understand that they upcharge parts and it is standard for the business, but wow. I would think that 2K would probably be more than fair but 5233.38 is wild....... Can't forget the $0.38. 😲

May I ask why in the fuck they're replacing the condenser, evaporator, and compressor?

Go somewhere else. I wouldn't trust any shop that gave me a quote like that. Complete nonsense.

edit; just saw the compressor price. LMFAO. Run away, don't look back.

Disregarding the other nonsense 2 hours labor for 1234yf service is normal. Warranty pays 1.2. It's a pain in the ass compared to the older r134a. 1234yf Freon is also pretty expensive. $300 for a full recharge is normal pricing.

Honestly - you should not have hidden the shop info in the screenshot. Let the forum members know which shop this is to make sure they stay away from it.

One of the more blatant fraudulent estimates I've seen.

Report them here. https://ag.nv.gov/About/Consumer_Pr...reliable utility service at a reasonable cost

I had my condenser and compressor changed in my Ram 1500 and the dealership charged me 2,500 which I thought was some what reasonable. Doesn't any work from the dealership automatically come with a 2 year warranty?

The compressor from a Mopar distributor website is $435 instead of the $700 MSRP. You would need to validate your engine as I have the manual 6-speed and therefore the ESS version of the Pentastar. If as others have said expect $300 to recharge the system, I would have to believe you should be able to get it done for below $1500. There is nothing that difficult with the job aside from purging the freon and refilling.

I hate AI, but using it I found only one company that uses Big on friendly in their statement

Big Brand Tire & Service. Notice sheet has bold "rand" first line, brand....

Dude go to a mopar shop fast.

My guess is the whole thing is a sham. Probably a leak somewhere and that can be fixed easily and recharged.

Check the fuses. Take it to another AC shop.

Yeah, I'd put some refrigerant and some dye in there myself then check it with a blacklight when it stops working again. Since the system hasn't been opened the OP shouldn't need to pull a vacuum. The dye works great, here are pictures from a leak on my civic.

I had to replace the A/C compressor in my son's 2014 Chevrolet Cruze two years ago. A brand new AC Delco compressor (with a three-year warranty on the compressor) ran about $1,400 for the total job - parts and labor. This was done at a local independent shop.
