I have been slowly doing some add-ons to my 21 JLR and noticed that in many circumstances the Jeep is pre-wired for factory upgrades and I am wondering how far this goes. For instance, I added the OEM LED front headlights. The 21+ were pre-wired even if they didn't come with them so I didn't need the jumper wire that came with the kit for the halo's to work (using the Tazer JL that is). When I was doing the OEM auxiliary switches I noticed that the wiring was there dead-ended behind the cubby for the harness, now where the other end is...no clue. My question is, how far do this pre-upgrade go? I have the wireless start, so if I want to add the proximity handles, do I need to replace just the handles or the handles and the harnesses? Are there harnesses pre-wired to make the factory add-on easier? What about adding BSM? Is that the same? I know that the Sports don't have any of the extras, but do the Saharas and Rubicons? For those wondering why I didn't order my Jeep that way, I got too great a deal on a Jeep that was on the lot and not having to wait to be delivered. I have been able to get all the features I would have ordered as take-offs for significantly less than if I ordered them. For instance, I got full front (including LED fogs) and rear OEM steel bumpers and an OEM hitch for $600.

there's a factory kit to add the proximity handles.

Sports have a different harness than the other two models because there are more upgrades to be installed. Definitely makes it real nice not having to make small jobs bigger with homemade wiring runs

The reason they are built the way they are is to save money, single part number for the whole harness, same installation procedure repeated over and over. It just happens to help make upgrades easier.

It depends. For instance, FCA added the additional wiring for the LED halos because a lot of owners/dealers were swapping headlamps; laying down the extra wiring was time consuming, which added significant cost. So FCA made the change to the wiring on 2021+ JLs.

Is there a way to figure out what additional wiring there is?
