Hi all, I have a '22 JLUR with Xtreme Recon package (35" tires) and will be adding a 2.5" lift so I need help getting in and out of my rig. I have a bad back plus it's my daily driver, so I've decided to splurge on the power retractable steps. However, we go to the desert and rock crawling in the mountains, which I've heard doesn't necessarily mix with the power steps. I've read a lot of the forum posts on this topic but seems like most of the posts relate to people that aren't rock crawling or desert running. And while I'm not "hard core", I do want to go out and play! We're most likely to be on the moderate 4-5 range trails.

So, does anyone know of any power step options with protection for people that still want to go off-roading? Is RSE at $2K+ the only one out there that offers protection in addition to the retractable step? I like the $1000 price of Rough Country, but can I pair them with rock sliders or other armor to protect?

Appreciate any feedback, thank you!
Hi Susan,

I'm running the Gen 3 RSE Step Sliders on my JL which is my daily driver and I do wheel my Jeep. I also ran the previous generation on my JK build.

Of all the step/sliders on the market, I think Rock Slide has the best design when you look at the strength/useability quotient. They are expensive, but they will provide solid trail protection and the steps make entry/exit a breeze for both front and rear passengers. I would recommend adding the armor...why not have the strongest protection you can have while on the trail?

Speaking of strength, I'm going to attach a video I did on the RSE sliders. This video came out of shoot I did covering a 3 day Rubicon Trail run with Dixie 4 Wheel Drive. It will demonstrate the strength of the sliders. I hope this helps as you consider your options.

Great video for those thinking that RSE sliders are just "power steps".

Is there a known discount code for the RSE’s?
You can save 10% using the code: expeditionbuilds10

It's good on any RSE products.

I have the RSE steps and skid plates. I have had my hip replaced and they’re a necessity for me. The steps work great for me. I did have one issue when the steps were installed the passenger step didn’t work. A replacement was ordered but before the replacement showed up that step killed my battery is my best guess. When jumping the JL with a boost box the step started working and has worked ever since. I’ve not had any issues since.

Great video and that definitely pushed me over the edge. Seems like this is what I am looking for to give me the protection and the convenience. Going to order this week! Maybe there will be some New Year’s sales. ?
Thanks to everyone for taking the time to post a response!

Did these jump up in price since the New Year? I thought prior to NYW they were $2199, now $2309...and the above mentioned code was a no go!

Hi Tim. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a price increase...based on the cost of just about everything seeing inflation over the past year, raw materials especially.

The code expeditionbuilds10 is good /active and will save you 10%. Use the code as you check out on the RSE site. I saw the issue, the code was spelled incorrectly in the previous post. I went back and edited that, sorry, that was my typo. Let me know if you into any trouble with it, thanks.
