I think you have to be honest with yourself about how abusive you will be. Mine have taken hits, been pivoted on, but mostly slid across and gouged up on the bottom surface. With a vertically challenged wife the true sliders are a non starter for us.

If your wheeling involves coming down hard into rocks repeatedly and nobody needs the assist getting in, then a weld on slider makes more sense.

@Ratbert has done some pretty good damage
True words, certainly wrt the "be honest with yourself" part. While the boatside sliders offer the ultimate protection, and look good as well, I don't make a habit of hanging out in the rock gardens. And my vertically challenged wife is certainly not going to let me give her the "Jeep tush nudge" to get in the Jeep. So, it's two thumbs up on the RSE sliders, for sure. It was not a hard decision, I just needed a little confirmation on robustness of the sliders. And you guys provided that, in spades.

Thanks guys, this forum is still an awesome thing for others' real world experiences with gear.

Happy to assist✌🏻 I've beat on mine pretty hard on the trails as well as submerging them on water crossings and they've held up well.

I recently had to replace a motor on my drivers side due a dead battery and a passenger stepping on the partially deployed step that ruined the motor. RSE sent me a new motor?motherboard combo and I'm happy to report the motor swap was very straight forward. I think I'm going to create a video on the motor swap/maintenance .

You have probably put the RSE sliders through more abuse than I ever envision doing, but you never know. I don't do enough rock crawling to really justify the Next Venture or Motobuilt weld on sliders. Plus, with RSE, I get an assist step for my wife (i swear it's not for me....).

Sounds like stepping on a partially deployed step for whatever reason can be a problem as both you and lindaspins mention it. I think a video on swapping the motor/motherboard would be very beneficial for us lemmings.

my wife is 5'1" and SS age :) and has no issues getting in my lifted jlur on 37's using the MORE hydastep. I have been all over moab and even tho they are easily removable I have not had to pull them off and they have never made contact. while I have not done pritchet canyon I have done Steel bender, moab rim, behind the rocks etc with no issues..
That looks like another excellent solution to the "entry" issue. But I still want better protection than the optional Jeep OEM sliders give.

Once you use the step, you're going to be hooked...I think your wife will appreciate them as well😃

The reality of it for me is that my Jeep is my daily driver, and I get to play offroad once, maybe twice a year if I'm lucky. So for me that breaks down to roughly 95% of the time the steps are in use and enjoyed, 5% of the time I know I'm protected on the trail.

The broken motor was freakishly bad timing. My original/stock battery dies as we are entering the Jeep after work. It left the drivers step about halfway down when the battery went to zero. As I get out to pop the hood my passenger steps out to help, putting their full weight on the step. You could hear what sounded like gears being stripped as the step went down with my passenger on it.

Oh well! Live and learn. Swapping the new motor/motherboard showed the steps were engineered to be easily serviced.

It's been good talking with this am.

My vote also goes to the hydastep. Easy to install, functional and esthetically is great because it doesn’t really show

One thing I did like about the AMP's on my Tundra was no magnets. Did I read that the RSE uses door magnets? If so, anyone have pic's of how that looks (not just the magnet, but the wire running to it). Any issues with magnets? Just a bit worried about chunking up the door jamb with something that looks aftermarket (if that is how they operate). Thanks gang.., great replies, and much appreciated!

I’ve had mine on since I bought this jeep back in August with no issues of marking or any type of damage, the wires run to the trim and hidden behind the trim and they have a little cover to protect/hide the wires.

I recall Brad from Trail Recon did not like his RSE power steps because the front bar support is right where he and his wife like to put their feet getting up into the Jeep.

I have had Rock Slide Engineering step sliders on my 2018 and 2021 Wranglers. They work great and are by far the best mod for "happy wife, happy life." They also prevent me from smashing the side of the bottom edge of my seat trying to get my big butt up into the Jeep. Their customer service is also 10 out of 10.

I have had the AMP power steps on several 3500 diesels. When we got the JLURD the wife (5’2” on a good day) wanted to get another set of AMP steps right away. I tried to persuade her to consider the RSE steps since they have far more rocker protection. She wasn’t interested due to the size of the drop down step, and the cold weather reviews. So when I eventually destroy these steps, I will gently remind her when we pick up the RSE steps. Maybe by then they will be amazing in winter?

that being said, we have no issues with the AMP steps in ~3 years of mixed use. Now on 3.5” lift and 37s.

I'm not going to say anything that hasn't already been said... But I had a set of RSE step sliders added 2 months ago. I'm 6' so getting in and out of my '22 JLUR wasn't a problem. However, the boss is 5'3" (and we're almost 60) so getting in and out wasn't her favorite. However, now with the step sliders, it's honestly easier for BOTH of us. And, I can push a them on the trail. That said, it's not a hardcore crawler.

Here’s a trouble shooting video with @Tech Tim from @Northridge4x4 if you need it down the road. After a very muddy wheeling trip I stupidly got water into a connector trying to clean things up. I used this video to diagnose. I used some CRC Lectra Clean followed by their dielectric grease and they’re still going strong. Check out the Northridge4x4 install videos as well on YouTube.
