So for anyone else having this issue, I found a quick and dirty solution that seems to completely fix this issue, at least for me.

Like others have said I believe the squeaking is the metal pin scraping against the metal plate it locks into. So basically we need to prevent the metal on metal scraping.

I cut about an inch off a Starbucks drinking straw and fit it over the pin with a bit leftover. It’s a perfect snug fit. Now when then pin goes into the locking position the excess plastic folds under and acts as a buffer to prevent scraping metal.

I hope this helps others having this same issue until Jeep has a real solution (perhaps pin covers or new locking plates that have a padded area built in)

amazing solution! I haven’t received my JLUS with one touch sky yet, but I’ll probably do this mod preemptively ... that is if i can find a drinking straw in crazy CA...

I think there must have been some known issue about squeaking coming from those removable windows. Earlier today when I applied my drinking straw fix I noticed that one of the handles and locking brackets had a clear adhesive film applied where the two parts could potentially rub together. It was only on one handle, so I wonder if this was applied as a "fix" during the inspection. In this case I don't think that was the root cause of the squeaking anyways... If anyone finds a better solution using something found at a hardware store let us know!

Hi All - I'm sad to say after another appointment with my dealership the solution did not fix the rattling and now I have multiple chips on my painted side panels. I dropped my Jeep off today to have the solution addressed which has an open Star case with Chrysler. The dealership added some additional weather stripping to hold the side panels more securely. Within driving 5 minutes from the dealership the squeak and rattle was back - upon investigating and taking the panels out to see what they did I noticed multiple scratches and chips in the paint as if they were sat on the ground without protection. To date I have been a big Jeep fan but it seems this top was released without testing. After spending nearly $60k I'm quite upset and hope Jeep finds a solution soon.

Has anyone found a long term solution yet?

@sbco - Try the fix I mentioned a few posts above if you have squeaking. Sounds like the paint chipping is a problem with carelessness at the dealership.

Thanks for the straw idea - I tried it but still had the squeaking. I also previously tried applying white lithium grease to the contact points, but no relief. I just bought a role of 1/2 inch acrylic non-friction tape, and will try this weekend to apply it to the latch contact points on the frame and see if that does any good. But for the reasons sbco said (chipped paint and no benefit), I'm not really interested in bringing it to the dealer to experiment on it. I'd just as soon wait until someone finds a real solution that the dealer can reliably implement.

I am glad to read that I am not the only person that has this squeak with my one touch Sahara. I've had my 2020 JLU for about 3 weeks and the squeaks started on day two and I was just thinking its a Jeep and they make noise. I will be trying to straw method and hope it works. I will post updates.

OK, so I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but I think I found a solution to the squeaking. I put a strip of polyethylene tape on both surfaces of the silver bracket on the frame where the latch makes contact (one strip on the top where the pin rests, and one strip on the side of the bracket where the latch secures the window to the frame). Two days in, no squeaking. I used TapeCase 423-5 UHMW tape, 1/2 inch width (bought on Amazon). As described by the manufacturer, "The thin tape forms a "slip plane" effect that ensures frictionless contact." So far so good.

I have the same issue. It started with one panel on the driver’s side and it progressed to the passenger side panel too.

I, too, have had the same annoying squad from the passenger side rear window. It is 100% the little metal pin at the end of the latch that has metal-to-metal contact. I have ordered these simple vinyl/rubber end caps from Amazon that I will trim a touch shorter and slide over the pin.

I am going to try the straws today... I had a follow up appointment yesterday and the tech reported that the squeak/rattle is normal for a Jeep Wrangler. It about sent me over the edge as my previous 3 appointments had identified where the sound was coming from, opened a star case with Chrysler, and added additional weather seal to hold the panel tighter. As soon as I got in the car and started driving in the parking lot I heard the noise and called the service manager to let him know the situation. I have a follow up appointment next week to take the technician that worked on it out for a test drive. I'm going to try and capture a video of the sound this weekend.

Update on the scratches: the dealer gave me a paint pen to touch them up and offered to send to an auto body shop which seemed a bit extreme so I took the pen.

If the straw doesn't work, you might want to try the polyethylene tape solution. I put the tape on almost a week ago, and not a single squeak since. Applying the tape took literally about 2 minutes. Amazon link to the tape is above.

I'll try that too - I used a medical Rock Tape on the latch plates and it did not work. Seemed to work for a short period and the sound started coming back.
