So...I've been trying to track down the clunking/clacking sound on my 22 V6 Wrangler Rubicon with the XR package. There's also a whining sound that can be manipulated by throttle at around 45mph-65. This is the diff oil after 30k miles. After changing the diff oil, the whining subsided a lot. However, the clunking and clacking noise is still present. Clunking happens almost all the time downshifting from 3rd to 2nd to 1st (automatically when slowing to a stop). Clacking (literally sounds like something is binding almost) occasionally happens when the vehicle is reversing (more so when its colder outside)
Should I do the transfer case and transmission fluid next? Has anyone had a similar experience? I hope these noises are just normal drivetrain slack...
