Some more pics from Alaska. We added 665 miles (180 off pavement) over the last two days as continued testing prior to a 1700 mile arctic trip we’ve got planned for July. Running like a top so far and the Fox 2.5s have proven to be an absolute revelation on the frost-heaved tundra roads.

Still a lot of snow on the Denali highway I see. Great first picture crossing the Susitna. See any Bear?

Thanks for the invite. Sorry KINI was still at the dealership.

Saw three griz in the national park but none on the highway. Tons of snow on the eastern third of the highway and actually ran through some new stuff falling on our way across.

Also Alaska. The picture was near Wishbone Hill Mine while fossil hunting.
Wow. My 1st wife grew up there as a child - her father worked the Usibelli coal mines (yes, she was a coal miner's daughter). I grew up poor, but compared to the way she lived, I was livin the country club life!

Also, if I was going to live in AK, it would be in the Matanuska-Susitna valley area. So beautiful. As opposed to where I lived, which was pretty much swamp and mosquitoes as far as the eye could see when it wasn't frozen. Most people think Alaska is so gorgeous, THEN they spend a summer there and learn about the mosquitoes, biting flies, and no-see-ums (midges) and are astounded at their voracious appetite and lack of fear of death. I mean, you learn to adapt, but it's no surprise that grizzlies go insane from the biting insects.

I live in the Mat-Su valley and have never found the bugs to be any worse than where I grew up in New England. You’re right though, it’s 360 degrees of incredible views around here. The mountains are also a great place to get away from bugs if deet isn’t your jam.

Nothing will ever top the swarm that found me camping next to Jackson lake in Wyoming. I had no vehicle to escape into because I was on a bike and they got so bad that I finally ate dinner in my tent against all typical bear-country advice. I decided I’d rather be mauled by a griz and go quickly than be sucked dry by enough mosquitoes to block out the sun.

More pics from the last frontier...40 miles of moderate wheeling to/from the Knik glacier which is easily the most impressive Jeep-accessible sight I’ve ever seen. 5.5 miles wide at the toe and 25 miles long. A solid Friday indeed.

how do you like those Roam steps and are they a good step in height?
Those are LOD rock sliders. I like them except they collect stones my tires sling from the road. Then they rattle inside. There are holes on the bottom to allow them to fall out but it takes time. I would blame the fact that my tires are sticking out quite bit instead steps. I would still buy them. Hight is just about what is right for me. I am only 5' 11".

Just waiting on the wheels and tires. Fifteen52 Traverse HDs and 37/13.5r17 Toyo MTs
Looks like the factory tires are swimming under there.
Just ordered the same wheels about 10 minutes ago (Traverse HDs in Asphalt Black). How long ago did you order yours? Can't wait to see em once you get em.
