For anyone who's interested, I've opened a case file with Jeep, and asked for a replacement Jeep to be provided. My dealership replaced the radio, the issue continued, and at this point I'm in Lemon Law territory. So I'm going to try to be nice and give Jeep and chance to give me a new wrangler that doesn't have a crazy radio, computer, wiring system, gauges, or whatever the issue is. My hope is they'll act quickly and give me a swap out.

If anyone has done something similar I'd be interested to hear how it went / is going.

Hello orey22,

We are so sorry to hear this issue hasn't been resolved. If you need any assistance communicating with your case manager regarding this, please send us a PM.

Every day my 8.4 either starts tapping itself and/or ignoring taps to lower icons. After 4 weeks Jeep is still deciding whether to replace or update software.

That's not what I want to hear! :lipssealed: I'm going to light a fire under Jeep to get some action, or it's lemon law for me. Sorry to hear you've been having issues too, we are in the same boat.

I just don't understand Jeep, Jeep Chat wasn't very helpful beyond telling me generally nothing can be done, and generally "Jeep will slow walk your repair options" ( para-phrasing ). I've talked online, called, and dealt with Jeep cares. My overall impression is Jeep would rather pay lawyer bills via Lemon Law, than actually try to resolve any issues.

So I'm on radio #2 also. It's been doing the same thing and it's running the current software so it's not something they have address with updates. I had my deal open a case with their technical team to see if it was going to get fixed this time, or if like they said I'll just have to wait. I'm not waiting!! I'm going to open a LEMON case also! I'm not going to drive a $50,000 jeep that doesn't work so jeep can tell me they don't know how to fix their problems.

Not to be a trouble maker so please no flaming but, my wife has a terrible time with touch screens she will go on and on with it won't work and I go try and no issue. Winter , dry skin? Not the first time I have seen this issue at home and at work in a factory with CNC,s saws and other machinery with operator controlled touch screens. had to purchase some operators special pens and warn harder is not better as they would ruin very expensive touch screens.

Just found this thread. I'll contribute my 2 cents. I've had my JLUR for almost a year and 15k miles. It has the 8.4 Alpine Nav system. This happens to me about 3-4 times a month. It used to bother me, but I realized I usually don't need to press any buttons on the screen anyways. I just leave it on Sirius/XM most of the time. The unit doesn't lose functionality, only the use of the buttons. I can still use CarPlay from my phone, it just doesn't show up on the screen. If it really bothers me, I pull over, turn off engine, open door, close door, turn on engine and everything works fine. It's probably software related but I can live with it. All vehicles I've every owned have their quirks. This one's not too bad. I'll follow this thread in case FCA comes out with a software fix.

as an addition to my previous post, I have not found anything on the menu to optimize touch screen, may need to contact head manufacturer for instructions. Better yet Jeep Cares should find out from head manufactures and publish procedure, generally this is just touching different dots on touch screen.

Thanks for the responses. It does it for the dealership also. They can't get anything to work when it happens either. They believe it is a software issue, but there have only been a hand full of jeeps that have experienced this issue so the software team has not made it a priority to fix, which is frustrating.

I bet there are tons of us dealing with it, but the hassle to get it dealt with exceeds the hassle of the issue for us...

I have also been dealing with Uconnect screen issues. I purchased it in April. Worked fine for about a month. The screen either responds very slow or doesnā€™t respond at all to touch. Another issue is that it will automatically start tapping icons and sometimes even dialing out on its own via Bluetooth contacts or if plugged in with CarPlay. Had a star case and finally the dealer replaced it today. They said it worked fine now. Drove down the street and i canā€™t press on some of the icons. No response or it touches the screen in a totally different area. I have to bring it back again next week but not sure this problem is going to get resolved.

Bought my 18 Sahara in july of 19 and experience this issue. Itā€™s on and off and not sure I consistently reperform it for the dealership. Really annoying. Hopefully this thread will continue to urge Jeep to resolve.

So, mine does this sporadically. I have found a way too get around some of the hassle. Even if the bottom icons are frozen, the info across the top of the screen will allow you to access the screen that info is connected to. Such as, touching the radio station or song listing on the upper left will take you to the radio or device screen. The wifi icon will take you to the apps screen, which will allow you to get to almost everything. The entire problem is still ridiculous for such an expensive item, but this has made dealing with it slightly better.
