I have the 8.4 uconnect and this issue has happened 3 times so far and I have only owned the Jeep for about 3 weeks.

The lower icons where you select from the various screens don’t respond to touch. For instance, the lower icons on my screen are media, climate, nav, satellite, apps, etc. If I touch these icons the screen does not switch to it. If I’m in media and I want to view climate, when I press climate nothing happens. Same for all the lower icons. However, everything above these lower icons works. It’s bizarre.

Then when I turn it off and on, it works again.

Anyone experience this issue?

I’ve had that happen maybe 4 times in my 5 months and 7k miles of ownership. It is super annoying!

Turn off Jeep, open door, close door, start Jeep fixes it.

More annoying is when audio volume completely quits. Full reboot (I use my Tazer to do that) is required to fix that one. Hopefully they squash these bugs in the next OTA update.

The 8.4 radio has some quirks lets say... hopefully in a future OTA update, issues like this will be remedied and not to many more injected as often happens with updates....

The USB port on the back of my JL's console just stops working... Fortunately, this issue has only happen twice in 5 months and 8,000 miles.

As @OldGuyNewJeep has done, I use the Tazer JL to reboot the 8.4 radio and that get the USB port going again..

I've been dealing with this problem now for 3 months. The Dealer has replaced my Radio with a new one and it did it again when I went to pick it up. I just got it back today, and was told they are not sure what is causing the problem or when it can be fixed. They are working with the manufacture of the radio to see if there is a solution. Mine has been in the shop now for a total of 24 days in the last two months.

Hey everyone,

I'm sorry this is happening! If any of you plan to visit your dealership to have this looked into further, just shoot us a PM in advance of your appointment so we can step in to assist.

They called me yesterday and said that the Engineers want them to replace my radio again. I said, ok, it didn’t fix the problem the first time, but go ahead and try it again.

That’s nuts. Let us know if you find out any other info on what is going on or if it fixes your issue. Thanks for the update.

Was there ever a fix for this? I believe this is the exact issue I'm having with mine, and I'm 2 radios into my JL. Maybe I need a third....

That tells me it's definitely software-related (unless there's some seriously poor wiring somewhere), but good to keep them posted that it's not helping. Hopefully it drives an OTA Update resolution.

So I had issue and now I'm a little worried. I'm on the 2nd radio, and the issue still persists. This has to be a bigger issue than just the radio, software problem, or main computer issue. All the lower buttons lock on an engine restart -- If I stop for gas, and restart the engine -- poof buttons are locked.

I'm almost to the point of asking for a brand new Jeep.... sigh....

I sure hope someone is monitoring this thread from jeep corporate, because after talking to two different sets of Jeep representatives / departments about my defective 2nd radio, I'm getting nowhere with no good answers. It's never the hope to reach 4 dealership visits to fix one issue, that I've tried very hard to fix, but if it comes to that then it's going to come to that.

This happens to mine as well, very randomly, but always at a very annoying moment. When we were in Colorado in September it happened 7-8 times, usually right when I needed to use navigation
.. Yes, I can pull over, turn off the Jeep, open the door, shut the door, restart, and it works, but that's pretty obnoxious when I'm driving on a highway or when I was on a Jeep road with vehicles behind me.

As mentioned, it's so random it has to be a software bug. I'll go weeks without an issue and then have it happen once or twice in a day, then go a week or three before it happens again.

I'm taking mine back in tomorrow for visit #2, already on radio #2, I'm wondering if they'll put in radio #3. At this point if it doesn't get fixed, I'm going to lemon law my Wrangler. As much as I hate to do this, when you spend $40K + on a Jeep you expect the damn thing to work. No excuses for Jeep / Chrysler not to issue an immediate recall on every JL to fix this, or at a minimum extend the warranty on all radios to 100K miles etc.
