I read a lot of information in the forums about the PVC valve and how difficult it can be to replace. However, there was not a lot of info on replacing it.
I replaced the valve on my 2018 JLU today and found it to be fairly easy.
The part is inexpensive and easily found on line. Here is how I did it.
First inspect the new part so you understand what you are going to take out! This will help you in the long run. The center seal stretches over the end of the cam so it will appear smaller than the one you are replacing.

Remove the engine cover for easier access. (You might find it helpful to move a few things out of your way.) The valve is located on the back of the passenger side valve cover. (The valve cover actually has directions on it for removal with an arrow.)

First release the vacuum hose from the top of the pvc valve which has a quick release fitting. You dont have to pry the hose off of the fitting as some would suggest! Push down on the hose housing and squeeze the grey fittings together and pull up.

Next, there is a small catch on the top of the valve that you have to release in order for it to turn to the left. Pry it back with a screw driver to release it. It might break, but thats ok because you are replacing it.
Turn the valve about 15 degrees to your left to unlock it. You will now have to gently pry the valve out to release the O ring. It fits in there fairly snug. Remove the part and replace with the new PVC valve. Be sure and oil up the cam seal and O ring! Reinstalling the new valve requires a little patience . I used a large pry bar to gently squeeze it back in. Make sure to apply even pressure and it will pop back in. There is not a lot of room to work back there. Once the valve is seated. Turn it to the right until the small latch clicks in place. Replace the vacuum hose on the top and your done.

Thanks this helped me. Here's a pic.
I used a 1/4" nut driver to rotate it with a set of long nosed pliers to push the release tab

Thank you for this! Going to replace the $16 part to see if i get lower crankcase pressure. All seals and front of valve covers are leaking, 50k miles.

I just replaced my valve on a 2021 Rubicon JLU. The info here is spot on. To remove the old one, I detached the hose and then put a 16mm socket with a short extension on the nipple. Pushed the lock tab back with a large screwdriver, and rotated the valve with the extension towards the passenger side to remove. For installation of the new valve, rubbing oil on the gasket and the outside of the valve body is essential. If you look at the new part, you can see that one of the guide tabs is angular (see red box in attached image). Once you feel you have pushed the new valve in enough to pass the gasket into the block, rotate the nipple towards the driver side and the part will seat itself and the lock tab will engage. Then just reinstall the hose. Also attached is a comparison of the old, rather blown out valve, compared to the updated part. I never had a rough idle, but when changing the air filter I noticed oil in the feed hose and decided to swap the valve.
