I planned to do this last year just after the purchase, but the transmission rebuild on my 1999 Isuzu VehiCross took much longer than expected. I enjoy the VX for everything except for longer drives where I will certainly hop in the Jeep for, but for running back and forth to work and other things I'm going to see how the VX does.

I tried a search for "Parking" or "Storing" but didn't come up with anything useful. With the Isuzu I disconnect the battery cable and I'm good to just leave it till it's time to fire it up again. (Made the mistake once not disconnecting and had a dead battery). The VX has sat all winter since picking it up around Thanksgiving and parking it. The Jeep won't sit that long between drives for sure.

My concern is if I disconnect the starting battery, what does that do to the Auxiliary battery underneath? Do I need to pull the main battery out, gain access to the other battery and disconnect it too? Seems like a lot of work, but I'll do it if needed.

Another thing I'm considering while the Jeep will be in a garage for a bit is applying a "Ceramic" coating. Had it done professionally to my Subaru and was amazed with the results, especially when I drove it in very sloppy conditions. Left it very dirty with the cover on it and came back to a nearly clean car from just the rain. I guess maybe as I think about it today the wind and flapping of the cover may have assisted with the removal of most of that grime. But it sure seemed easier to wash.

Anyone have a favorite DIY ceramic product? Don't supply links to Amazon, because I will never buy anything from them. Just the name and I'll check my local merchants for the item.

Thanks in advance for reply's, suggestions and comments.

I’d Rather Talk Jeep’s!
You can simply disconnect the auxiliary battery negative cable from the main battery negative terminal connector to disconnect it. Personally, I’d connect a Noco Genius (or approved equal) to keep your batteries charged and healthy.

Avalon King makes a great DIY ceramic coating kit that you can purchase directly from them.

I would also increase your tire pressure to 40-42 PSI (much like the dealerships do) to ward off flat spotting of the tires.

In lieu of increasing the tire pressure during the storage period, give some thought to getting all four off the ground via jack stands at each corner.

I've stored motorcycles and/or summer vehicles every year for a number of years now. Tires will develop flat spots irrespective of pressure; raising it just delays the inevitable (depending on the length of time that the vehicle is sitting.)

Just a suggestion. If the Jeep's storage period(s) aren't months-long, you might not need to trouble yourself with the jack stand approach.

Would just removing all the wheels and lay them flat be better and keep Jeep on Jack stands?

No need for that, really. If jack stands are used, the [still-mounted] tires are being held harmless in the same way that they'd be if removed.

Edit
RE: Ceramic car wash
Although not an all-in preservative treatment, I was pretty impressed by the performance of this hybrid ceramic wash & wax product. Maybe consider it as a stop gap, or something to use at any time.

I've applied ceramic coating to both of my Jeeps and I'm very pleased with both products.

I treated my '17 Renegade with Drexler and 3.5 years later, it still shines and cleans up easily. The Drexler is a 2 coat process, so it was a very time consuming project but the results are excellent.

Last spring I coated my '21 Wrangler with Avalon King and it's also very good, although so far I only have a little less than a year's experience with it so far.

1. Keep your battery charged with a trickle charger or something. If you have good batteries you should keep them in play.

2. Tires, not sure or maybe I missed it but unless you intend to store your vehicle for a long time (in excess of 6 mo) and your storage is outside or subject to ambient temps of outdoors. Inside of a garage be it attached or detached it takes a long time before flat spots develop and they dissabppaer when the tire warms up in driving. My Truck sits outside and even in temps as low as 02 F my flat spots were gone in less than a mile of driving.

I use this ceramic wax.

I do a double coat early fall, and then another double in the spring as soon as the temperature allows it, then a single somewhere mid summer.

So for the most part, during the winter I just power wash maybe weekly if it gets dirty, then hand wash once a month or so.

I also use a few other if their products, like wet wax, also wash and wax

I use 303 protectant on all the plastics and tires, and interior.

The biggest issue you will have is the gas going bad from being old. ethanol blends break down quick. You need to make sure you add some sort of fuel stabilizer to the tank or it won’t run when you decide to drive it again.

I live in Utah and ride snowmobiles in the winter and ATVs in the summer, both sit for about 6 months out of the year. I use fuel stabilizer and that seems to do the trick.

the ATVs have electric start with a battery, I just run them periodically and don’t put thebattery on a tender or anything and that seems to be ok.

If you are going to store for a really long time you’ll need to do something different with the gas/batteries. You’ll also probably need to change the oil when you are ready to drive it again.

I keep my expensive, but little used, toys in the garage on a battery tender.....I use a CTEK. These will keep batteries ready to go for months.

Thanks for all the replies today. I thought about doing the trade this afternoon, but the day got away from me. I'll for sure get it done tomorrow before the rain ruins my fresh wash. I'll just have to wipe it down before putting some sort of protectant on everything. Will have to wait for the temp to warm up a bit. Not too much though I don't want to work up a sweat during the application.
