I posted a loss of electrical power on my ‘21 JU a week or so back & got some good info. I bought a jumper pack just to get me home & started troubleshooting. It SEEMED as if the battery was bad or not holding a charge. I had it load-tested at 2 different AutoZones….one said it was good & the other said it was marginal. Since I felt it was suspect (& despite being only ~2yrs old) I opted to replace it (went from 600CCA to 850CCA) so I was certain it was dealing with a good battery. I also checked engine codes & cleared it - only one: “P0562 - system low voltage”)…not surprising given the (seemingly) dead battery. I also opted to do a power draw test on the negative side of the battery with my digital multimeter. When initially connecting the leads & the Jeep off, the draw was ~5amps but the radio & dash display were still illuminated. About 40sec later & the displays now dark it dropped to ~1.7-1.9amps. At about 5.5min it dropped to ~0.2amps. And at about 10min it dropped to ~0.1amps (100mA). It never got lower than 0.1amps. I pulled every fuse 1-by-1 and it was still ~0.1amp. Is this too high? I’ve read that it should generally be <50mA and in newer vehicles it can be 50-85mA…which I’m close it. I also read that sometimes newer vehicles can take 45min or even longer to fully shutdown their electronics. I’m concerned that a parasitic power draw MAY HAVE led to the premature failure of my original battery & COULD now be nibbling away at the new one. Thoughts??
