I want to have a 12VDC refrigerator for overlanding but don't want to spend $1K-$2K for an dual battery Genesis type system.
My Rubi comes with a 150 watt AC inverter. I was thinking about installing a solid state 10-12 amp battery charger in the rear, feeding into an AGM battery, which would power my ARB frig. When the JL is running, the battery would be charging. When camping, the battery would feed the frig and not drain the engine battery. I wouldn't have to run another large gauge wire to the rear from the front. Later this year, I will be installing a roof rack that can hold a 100 watt solar panel, which will lead down the the AGM battery.
Any negative aspects on such a setup?
