Paint Corrosion

@JeepCares I purchased my 2019 JLU new and the extended paint coverage warranty will be expiring next month.

I’ve had it in for paint repairs twice already and just found a new spot. I’m concerned that this is going to continue and I’m not going to be able to afford to fix it in the future. They have only done spot repairs at the certified Jeep dealership In taking it to and aren’t doing total repaint on the pieces. I’ve had spots repaired on all four doors, right front fender, hood left and right and now there’s new corrosion on the tailgate. Are there any conditions where Jeep will repaint the entire vehicle?

I’ve even considered selling it to get a new one but there isn’t verification that the corrosion won’t happen on the new vehicles. It would break my heart to sell it, but I can’t afford to fix corrosion if it continues to happen. Please help!

Maybe that is why they said, "once your vehicle is out of warranty" and not "since your vehicle is out of warranty." Them offering a case manager through a PM one business day after the original posts seems pretty impressive to me.

. The current warranty policy is to replace the doors not repaint, especially with corrosion at the bottom of the door. Too many reoccurrence issues with repainting

Does anyone know when the issue was supposedly resolved at the factory? I have read that at some point in 2021 new Jeeps were shipped out that would not have this problem. Is that true?

The late 21 and newer jeeps have a barrier or plate of some kind between the hinges and body panels that is supposed to stop corrosion. but it still happens just not as often or as soon.
I have a late 2021 Willys and just noticed a small spot on the driver's door upper hinge. Right in the middle of the hinge.

Sadly I don’t think the barrier plate makes a lick of difference. My 22 JLR has it along both sides of the hood. Looks to be the same crap that afflicted my 19 JLR. If I knew for 100% certain they’d fixed whatever the hell the problem is, I’d just order a new one….but I have zero faith in stellantis to identify the problem, let alone actually implement a solution. When it bothers me enough to do something on my 22, I’ll strip it down and have the entire vehicle Line-Xed.

I hear ya. The hood corrosion has nothing to do with hinge barrier working or not working. That was just shitty prep work before they painted it.

I don't believe '21s have the new hinges. I have an Oct '21 build and don't. The TSB was released in 2/23 so I'm pretty sure they cut in the new hinges around that time frame. I would say late '22 at the earliest.

My plan, as the paint gets worse, the build gets more extreme.

I've attached the most recent TSB, as well as a warranty service bulletin that further clarifies that if hinges are replaced on a panel (door, tailgate), they both must be replaced.

Please note that replacement of a panel is not a given under the TSB unless the corrosion occurs in the hem flange area (See bottom of page 2).
