P06DD error code, any step by step guides to fix?

Hi everyone,

Yesterday after getting my car back from my mechanic who restored my car to work after replacing the fuse box, I was driving and the check engine light came on.
That night I checked it with a scanner and saw a P06DD code.
This morning I changed the oil and filter and ran the engine on idle and in park. The scanner is still showing P06DD.
any recommendations on exact next steps?
I don't want to damage anything. The vehicle has 60263 miles on it.

Take it back to your mechanic.

Code P066DD is the code for Engine Oil Pressure Control Circuit Stuck Off. Your oil pump didn't switch to high pressure mode. The pump normally switches to high pressure mode on startup or over about 3500 rpm. This can be caused by low oil, dirty oil, bad oil filter, etc. It can also be a bad solenoid or the oil pump itself.

Assuming the 3.6, P06DD is an alert that oil pressure is low - presuming the oil pump is stuck in low pressure mode. This means that either your oil pressure sensor isn't properly detecting the oil pressure, or that your oil pump really is stuck in low pressure mode. Looking at probably an oil pressure sensor or oil pump replacement.

Depends on how mechanically inclined you are. Oil pump requires dropping the oil pans (upper and lower, as a unit). Did it on my JK with the 3.6, was not an overly fun job, but doable.

Oil pressure sensor is built into the oil filter/cooler housing. I'd honestly be shocked if you were able to get it out of the plastic housing and get a new one in without issue. From what I've seen most folks just replace the cooler housing, but it's also not a job I've done myself so I don't know if there's some secret voodoo to getting the pressure sensor out of the housing without either unseating the seals or stripping the plastic out.

This code is usually caused by low engine oil or an aftermarket filter. The code itself will take awhile to clear itself if you did not clear it. Make sure you're using an OEM filter. If the code returns then you need an oil pump. Relatively common repair. Make sure your oil cooler isn't leaking either, as that will also throw this DTC.

Nah, if the PDC was related you'd have a circuit high DTC. The DTC being thrown is the typical "oil pump solenoid not changing pressure when commanded" DTC. This is caused by the solenoid being actuated and the PCM not seeing the oil pressure change. Usually caused by an aftermarket oil filter or the engine itself being low on oil. If there's no leaks, oil filter is a known good OEM unit, and the oil is full, then it's a failing oil pump.

Just check the IC displayed value at idle.

Use an OEM filter. They're like, 10 dollars. Seriously, it makes a difference when dealing with this DTC.

Whelp, I just dropped it off at the dealer. We shall see what happens next...

Just got the car back from the dealer and they said its all fixed. It only needed a software update. Took the car out, ran errands, drove around, and no check engine light or engine stalling. All that's left to check is to put a scanner to it for the 100% all clear. Need to wait to get the device back from my friend. If its fixed, that'd be amazing! All it needed was a flash update!

Come to think of it, how can we get our hands on new software or make sure we have the latest?

As far as I'm aware there isn't a PCM update for this specific DTC. I may be wrong here, though.

Out of curiosity did you ever actually clear the DTC after doing the oil change? It's possible that fixed it and you just never actually cleared it. They take a LONG time to clear on their own.

I did. I tried clearing the DTCs after the oil change but P06DD kept coming up.
Then I didn't drive the car again for 3 days. When I drove the car to the dealer yesterday morning at 6am the check engine light was off... but my scanner was still showing the code as "permanent".
I left it. And hours later I was told it was ready. I was flabbergasted. But happy.
