Not to mention, the Rubicon currently does not have a standard wheel, despite what the "Build and Price" page suggests. When speccing my 2023, I asked three separate dealers to build it with stock wheels; each individually confirmed they were unable to do so in their actual order system, and were instead forced to check the optional wheel box - the so-called standard wheels were not configurable.

I had the same problem when I was placing my order. I purchased the upgraded wheels, which from what my salesguy told me used to be the standard wheel. I hope I get the better looking wheel that I paid for.

I've owned my Sahara Altitude for a year and I'm still in shock that LED headlights were a $1,100 option. On a ~$50K "luxury trim" vehicle.

Have a set of LED headlights, taillights and fogs I've been trying to sell locally. Would you be interested in paying $350 plus shipping? I've not considered listing them, but most of the local Jeepers I know got the LED package so they're not selling here in FL.

Sometimes it's worth the risk to buy a first year model. Knock on wood, my 4xe has been flawless the past 25,000 miles and was much less expensive than the '23s.

All the new Defenders have LED as a standard option with a premium LED variant (even on models much cheaper than some non-392 Wranglers). Hell, LED lighting is standard on many sub-$30k vehicles now, and imo, should be standard on all new vehicles, purely as an improvement to safety when driving at night, and they sure as shit shouldn't be a $1,000 option (couple hundred maybe) outside of the fancy new matrix/adaptive LEDs.

Exactly. Luxury brands will charge hundreds/thousands for options on a $70k+ vehicle that are standard on a Kia. Clearly Jeep wants to be a luxury brand. Even to the point that they have reintroduced Wagoneer as a sub brand, which I assume is meant to be their "Range Rover."

I just built a 2023 JLUR on the Jeep web site. Set it up exactly like my 2021. It priced out $800 more than my Jeeps sticker price. My Jeep has the premium alpine radio, LED lights and leather. No safety group. I wouldn’t consider that a huge jump.

And anyone thinking companies are going to give up this post-covid gouging is only fooling themselves. They aren't going to give up these sweet extra high profits.

I'm afraid you may be right. As long as everyone sticks to the script of low supplies, etc., there's very little we as consumers can do about the situation. There's really no way we can verify actual parts or labor shortages, we have to depends on what manufacturers tell us.

Deming's just in time has conveniently turned into when we get around to it. A fair amount of money can be had when you carry zero inventory of parts and supplies. Don't get me started on all that PPP relief cash manufactures and dealers squandered and failed to use as intended.

Just for fun I priced out a new Rubicon in auto. I figured used resale is high so I’ll do some quick math.
Now they’re charging an upcharge for the Rubicon wheels that were standard on my 2018?
Glad to see at least now you can order different gears so as to not have to regear separately. But overall prices seem quite high.
I’ll hang onto mine for a bit longer

Ordered my 2022 JLR for $39,893, plus DMV fees. Didn't seem like too much.

that would be my buddy. he wasnt laughing though when he went offroading with a big group of JKs and JLs and had a lot of trouble trying to keep up, on a mild/moderate trail. he also wasnt laughing about spending $$$ to be able to put 35s on his TJ. it does look really nice though... lol

Base price on a Sport in 2019 was 28,045. 2023 base is 30,295. AC is standard now, and that accounts for about 1400 of that 2250 increase. Difference is 850.

Sticker on mine in 2019 was 35,270. Configured the same now is 39, 635. The only difference in spec is the ETorque on the 3.6, because you cant get thE 8 speed AT without it. That's 250.

But....the AT itself has gone from 2,000 to 3,750. Hardtop is up from 1, 195 to 1, 695. In 2019, all terrain tires came standard if you bought the anti-spin diff. Now they add 295.

Oh, and...my destination charge was 1, 195. Dunno what will add to the sticker.

It's the options that have jumped, not the vehicle itself.

Most clean used, low mileage JLs are near or above original sticker. When I look at old stickers on them I realize how reasonable they were. The previous poster is correct, the options have gone up a lot so unless you want a base model and are okay spending forty grand for a vehicle that has manual door locks and windows, it’s quite a bit more. The real issue here is I don’t know if this can continue, and if the bottom will fall out of the market soon and put a stop to all of this? Or is Jeep immune because the type of buyer?

Running that amount through an inflation calculator that is equivalent to $32,790 in today's dollars. I just priced out the equivalent 2023 model at $35,485 before any Tread Lightly discount/dealer discount or taxes. Doesn't seem too overpriced to me.
