I had an ECU remap for over 3 years now. I now have about 550 nm of torque. I tow a 2.4 tonne van very carefully and the car is awesome.
Having that much torque when extreme off roading is great plus my fuel economy on 37" tyres is still excellent. Under 15 lph when towing the van or 8.5 on the hwy averaging about 100 kph.

Hi everyone,

Glad to see there’s still 2.2 owners out there that want to tweak and tune their 2.2. I wasn’t sure about remapping and I wasn’t sure about tuning boxes. In the UK I’d heard of two 2.2 with TDI tuning chips that soon after had injector and DPF problems.
I did however do a lot of research on remapping of the 2.2 in the Alfa Romeo Guilia tuning. All of which seem to produce about 230/240 BHP without issue.
I still wanted the ability to adjust the tune and throttle response based on the conditions.
This lead me to Unichip Europe, I had seen a lot about Unichip Australia and only heard good reviews.
After talking to Redline tuning the UK & European distributor of Unichip and having a helpful conversation I chose them.
They had to start from scratch and worked extensively on the dyno to perfect a tune.
Despite the 37 inch tyres they managed to achieve around 230hp and 540nm of torque. There is also an immobiliser mode standard map mode, economy mode ( less power and throttle response) 4x4 mode ( slightly less throttle response but massive torque) and a performance mode ( Maximum Throttle response Power & Torque) .

Over in very impressed with the service and the adjustability of the unit.

IJust an update on my previos post. I've now had my ECU remapped with a custom tune since 2020 when it had under 10,000km.
It's still running smoothly, it has heaps more torque and tows a big 2.4 tonne caravan with low 14 lph fuel economy and there's no turbo lag.
I love the remap. (Pls note the attached figure are taken from the rear wheel whilst Jeep figures are from the flywheel. )

How much did this cost?

You’d need to talk to redline tuning in Basildon as they’re the unichip Europe dealers. I remember it being around £800 for the multimapping option all in. This did include proper dyno tuning though not just plug and play see what happen style boxes. The main hardware upgrade is get as a 2.2 owner would be the JTD performance sump upgrade kit.

Some places I guess you can get away with that. Most countries in Europe, you would get caught during inspection and the fines and penalties are large. In Australia there is a min 12k fine for messing with the DFP. I think Germany you would lose your DL.
Honestly not sure why people bitch about DFP. To date, I have never met a person who had an issue or failure with it.
Most of the failures I’ve seen with this engine has been because of the failure of the oem seal that I have sent you a link to. The most common for turbo failure is oil starvation due to that seal failing. Also failure of the turbo due to people not knowing how to drive a modern diesel vehicle with a DPF. Extended service intervals and turning the engine off during a regen being the main culprit.

Thanks 🙏 s

Sorry if I sound stupid here. But you mentioned this is the best performance upgrade. What does it do exactly?
My performance I mean the best thing to help your engine stay running at the correct oil pressure for longer. I’m really not going to explain what it does to be honest click on the link and read the description that’s what it’s for🤣. Alternatively you can view my other posts on the issue.

Is there grinding of the oil pan required like in the video they link to?

I’m very keen to get this done. I had a turbo bearing failure at 53,000ks.
A lot of oil got ingested into the DPF when they looked at it. I wonder if it was a seal issue as I was driving down the highway when it failed.

It’s definitely worth doing and the parts and labour are comparatively cheap compared to the cost of a new turbo and DPF. I would also have the screws on the oil pump checked while you are doing this work as they are also known to come loose. I would contact JTD performance as they are experts on this engine and making them stronger.
