Posted this in the Power & Hand Tools section originally and then found this thread..

Interested in possibly setting my rig up for an on board air in the future. Leaning towards the ARB 12V Air compressor. Haven't looked deeper into others and would consider a portable one as well. I've seen some with set ups in the rear trunk area and others under the hood. Was wondering on what set ups are out there and recommendations on dual battery/deep cycle battery. If there's any threads out there regarding this topic please feel free to share! Thanks!

What are you trying to do? Just inflate tires, or run power tools? Do you want to DIY? If so, how comfortable are you with wiring and running air lines?
This all might help. If you just need to inflate tires, I’d listen to @AcesandEights to go with a portable. 30A and below can be wired to a rear 7-pin trailer plug if you have the HD package.

Running air tools will benefit from a tank in the mix. Air lockers need a manifold. If you want fast air up times, an onboard dual will be best. I mount mine inside the cab to cut down on maintenance, but you have to run power through the tub or firewall for that.

Went this route with mine a year ago and it has been great. Limited to the ARB single and the 2.0T engine however..
I've seen of this guys videos before. I really like how this is tucked in the engine bay and the placement of air chuck so it's easily accessible. Is there a reason you went with the ARB single (aside from the price point difference) or did you just do ARB single for this particular set up cuz it fits?

Also, my JLU isn't equipped with the OE aux switches like this one is and would need to look into a switch panel. I only have 1 switch for my ditch lights but knew I'd need to get a switch panel eventually for this and other aux lights I plan on adding. Is yours equipped w/ OE aux switches? if no, what switch panel are you running?

I have this setup and have a 3.6 eTorque
Yeah I like how clean and tucked in this set up. I like things neat, hidden and tucked away.
Are you running OE aux switches or aftermarket? My JLU isn't equipped with the OE switch panel so I knew I'd have to get that for this and for other lighting I plan on adding. Also, how do you deal with getting it dirty and muddy from off roading? I'm assuming the filter is supposed to help with that but to me.. in theory dried mud prevents blockages for less air flow in which creates a lower air output?

Mainly to air up, Power tools is just a plus but not something that's necessary for what I'd like to do at the moment. Then again.... are any of the mods we do to our jeeps "necessary" lol I'm pretty sure we'd all say yes lol Where in the cab is your mounted exactly? I'm comfortable enough with running wires and lines, just picky about having things showing. I like to make sure things are tucked neatly and look clean. My ditch lights wiring is currently ran thru the firewall and the switch is located by door harness sitting flush

ARB twin mounted under passenger seat with Innovative AT mount and 4-way inflation hose. I love it. ARB twin is probably the most expensive of the onboard compressors but it’s good and it’s fast. I preferred under seat to rear cargo or under hood solutions. Controlled by AUX switch.

not the person you asked, but I just installed a rocker switch under the hood for the time being. I plan on getting this switch panel eventually, though.

ARB twin mounted behind the passenger seat with Innovative AT mount and 4-way inflation hose. Very happy with this setup.
