Okay our '20 Sahara with 42k miles is in need of new tires for inspection (and because I want them). Psyched because I want the default road tires off and to get into something a bit meatier. Currently the default size is 255/70-18. I believe this is roughly 32 inch tire? Can a stock Sahara take a 33 in tire with no modifications or rubbing even off pavement? Most of the driving is in town (on pavement) with weekends here and there exploring fire roads/Class IV and light trails, nothing too crazy. I don't want to get into a lift at this point, but possibly a small spacer? Are they any good or would the driving dynamic change?

All that said what would the tire size for the Sahara be for a 33in tire (255/7?-18)? Looking at Ko2, Good Year Wrangler, or Destinations (there are Rubicon/Willy's default right?). Any other recommendations for brand? Looks like Tire Rack or Town Fair (New England chain) might be best prices, around 270-280 each.

Yes, 33s (285/70/17) will fit with no other mods. Avoid load range E, unless you plan on rock crawling aired way down.

I would look to see if there are any Rubicon take-offs in the for sale section here and on Facebook market place.

They would be 285/70/17 and are 33"...
I like the idea, but is a harder sell for the wife vs simply saying, hey we need new tires. Mostly looking to see what my existing wheels/Jeep can take with no issue on rubbing. Figure I'd take advantage an possibly size up if they fit properly.

I poked around the wheels/tires threads and will take another look.

The Rubicons will fit with no issues (there are tires only for sale in both places--you would not need to change the wheels unless you wanted to). The stock Rubicon tires are 285/70/17 and that should not cause any issues with fitment or rubbing.

Note that you will need to change the tire size in the system (either with JSCAN or Tazer or have the dealer do it) so that your speedometer reads correctly--if your stock tires are smaller.

I use JSCAN because do not need any of the features that Tazer provides. A JSCAN license is about $24 (download the JSCAN app and buy it through it) and you need an OBD2 module (one of the top rated ones approved by JSCAN is $32 on Amazon).

275/70R18 measures 33.2x10.8 inches. I had this size on my Sahara at one point —see below. It’s the ideal size if you don’t plant to regear. But you might want to add a 3/4-inch spacer lift to make sure you don’t rub at full flex.

Ah; missed that, thought I read it was a Willys.

@linuxos77 - In that case, I would go for the full Rubicon take-offs (tires and wheels) simply because there are more tire choices in 17" versus 18" and you may go for even larger tires in the future.

⬆ this. Unless you love the look of your Sahara wheels, you might be surprised at how much cheaper it is to buy Rubicon take-offs than new tires, especially when you factor in selling your Sahara wheels to offset the cost. At least that is how I justified it with the Mrs. back in the day... :CWL:

Plus you ca usually get a set of Rubi wheels and tires for what you’d pay for tires alone.

^ The above is true. You can get wheel & tire takeoffs with less than 1000 miles on them for cheaper than just new tires alone, usually. I opted for new wheels and takeoff Falken Wildpeak tires; paid less than new falkens alone.

We're running Toyo AT3's LT275/70R17R on our Sahara. Stepped down in size obviously, but the tires are ridiculously good. Taken then through the most recent Tahoe snow storms with no issue, then drove back up to Seattle and have been through some really good rainstorms too. They don't plane and really give you a great sense of confidence.
