I think Johnny Cash did that back in the 60's.

And he was the only person ever sued by the government for starting a forest fire. Maybe the feds can call Jeep Cares and see if they can get reimbursed or at least a few free oil changes for their fire trucks

A good reminder.
Even pulling off the road onto a grassy shoulder for a moment can cause a fire.
More likely with a lower clearance vehicle than a Jeep.
Something to always be aware of.

A recent fairly large wildfire out here was ignited by a car pulled off the road after breaking down on the highway. Catalytic converters in particular have been a problem since their inception. When I was around farms in MO many farmers pulled the cats off their truck as they would start fires driving through their fields.

This is a good reminder to be aware of what is not only around but under your vehicle when pulling off the road (or trail). I've placed a blanket under the vehicle and crawled around on it to flatten the grass and gain clearance under the cat and exhaust pipes.

Then we have the folk who flick a cigarette (or whatever) butt into the grass...

Yup. Happened a few years ago a few miles south of my house. Rubber necker pulled off onto the shoulder of the road to watch a fire and caused another fire. In the map below, a fire was caused by a cigarette tossed out of a window on I-80, extreme left of the map. Strong winds blew the fire eastward over the mountains. Some dufus drove down Grass Valley Road to watch the fire, pulled off onto the shoulder and ignited another fire which took off east from his position. To his credit, he stayed and called in the fire.

It was covered with dry grass. Bogs and swamps can be funny that way: dry on top, soup underneath.
They probably also use water to put the fire out.

I'm not saying not possible, but a much more likely cause is the stuck person dropped a cigarette. I say this because in AZ, king of dry grass, I've never had a vehicle start a fire, it have seen dudes pulled over, start a cigarette, chuck it, and it costs me $50 in a fire ext.

Understood! I am now planning on removing that cat this weekend. Ya know for safety reasons. ;)

I've seen it a number of times, unfortunately, though never in AZ. Not just vehicles, but mowers, chain saws, weed whackers and such as well. But not saying a lit cigarette is an unlikely cause.
