So this continues to happen, fuel pump relay was dealers first guess. Back to the shop.

Ouch. I hope they get it fixed soon.

Yep, only does it with key fob or push button, never on ess restarts.

and wicked intermittent, though usually once or twice a day.

Hot or cold, full or almost empty, 3 tanks of gas since purchase, different stations.

Annoying

At least you got a good video of it in action. That should be a lot of help in diagnosing the problem. Good luck!

In the old days a Coolant Temperature Sensor would cause a no start or hard start like the one in your video.

In late 80’s and early 90’s fuel injected Ford’s, with the bad coolant sensor they would never start cold but would never trigger a code.

If you sprayed a little starting fluid in them they would start right up. As long as the engine was warm they would restart all day.

I may be off base with these newer models, but as it is starting off ESS—the engine is warm and restarts. It’s worth a look.

Yeah ess always restart... hot or cold the button or remote may get the action in the video... I suspect a weak/faulty fuel pump..

Wouldn't make any sense if it was fuel pump related because the system stops pumping fuel whenever the engine is off on either the ESS or just plain off.. A pressure test certainly wouldn't hurt though... For an easy diagnostic test; Get it to do it, have someone push the button, then spray some starting fluid into the open throttle body and see if it turns over.. If it does it's for sure a fuel problem, if not then it's a spark problem. Unfortunately the dealer won't put much time into it because it costs them money, and most "techs, aka parts changers" don't know what to do unless the computer tells them what to do..

And be sure to keep bringing it to the dealer then keep all your records in case you need to go the lemon route.

It is the fuel pump actually (not holding back pressure) and true to form FIAT has no parts available until mid February. My friends with 500s continuously have issues getting parts, seems like the same shit pour managment has bled over to Jeep.

Out of concern for my safety, though it has not randomly died once started, they kept my jeep. So took delivery on 4th, have driven it maybe 10 days between shop visits. And now I get to pay for it to sit in a parking lot for 2 or 3 weeks.

F$%# Fiat, Jeep, etc.. 4th jeep, last jeep. Their response to issues more than the issues themselves are killing a legacy. Jeep Wave is a joke, no followup.

Does it happen after the car's been sitting/cooling down for an hour or so, after being driven? This is exactly how my (2 day old!) Jeep starts up, but only after its been driven and then parked for an hour. Dead cold starts seem okay so far... so frustrating!

Sucks that your having this issue, obviously. If you get access to it again can I have your batteries?
