Automatic Starts Out in 2nd Gear when in 4WL (Diesel)

I was on a trail today in my Rubi Diesel and I noticed for the first time when I am stopped and in 4 wheel low and the transmission is in the automatic mode "D" (not manual) the Jeep starts out in 2nd gear. If I move the shifter over to the left to the manual mode, it stays in 2nd gear (at a stop) but of course I can manually shift into 1st gear the using (-) function.

Has anyone else noticed 2nd gear starts with in 4WL? Is this normal?

Note: With the diesel in 4WL and in 1st gear, the torque to the 4 wheels is amazing.

They all do that. You have to manual shift into 1st.
