There is no aftermarket Windshield offering for the JL at this time. IF there is, (doubtful) show me the link. Again, OEM and it is an Acoustical Windshield.

You have 2 different OEM/Mopar acoustical windshields offerings. One is for all 2018 JL's and fairly recently, a new one specifically for the 2019 JL that requires the two wires coming off the windshield itself, that are apparently use to provide 12v power to a little heating gird at the top of the windshield.

Again, only certain 2019 JL's need this second type of acoustical windshield with the two wires coming out of the top of it. The JL optioned with proximity sensor, adaptive cruise control....
What the heck is embedded in this windshield? Is it an antenna? Does not appear to be a heating element for the radar/camera because it does not appear to be centered but instead under the passenger side visor.

They go off the VIN #. Not only will they be able to tell if it’s a JK or JL, but if you have the 8.4” audio which comes with acoustic glass.
A while back I emailed Jeep Care about which JLs come equipped with Acoustic Glass. They contacted some product specialist at FCA and confirmed every JL has Acoustic Glass. I actually emailed back and re-confirmed this.

Acoustic glass is made thinner to save weight. I wonder if the thinner glass is the main reason JL windshields break so easily? Some will also say the angle of the JL windshield but I owned a TJ and JK and don't think cracked windshields were so prevalent? And the TJ and JK windshields were even less raked. Full disclosure though, I don't own a JL yet. Just noticed a lot of reports of broken Jl windshields from forum members.

@jeepster

A Service Manager at a Jeep dealership in Florida, told me it was a heating grid. Other then that I don't have a clue. Yes, Service Manager's / Service Writer's are known to spew misinformation, so............

After reading all sorts of stuff on the forums, I was convinced that there was only an OEM replacement and that Safelite would install it for something below $400.

I’ll just say here that I called Safelite today and was quoted two prices — $650 plus tax for OEM and $530 plus tax for OEE. If there truly is no OEE, someone needs to tell Safelite.

Did you get a part# from Safelite in regard to this "OEE" for a JL? Did you get an OEE installed ?

... if and when you do, post back here and give us a part number and tell us you had an "OEE" installed.

Did you find a forum post that said an OEE was installed on a JL and the part number was...

I'm running an aftermarket windshield. Custom Glass Solutions offers it to installers. It is tougher glass too and I had it installed for $330.00.

I haven’t seen a part number. The guy said he would be emailing me the quote, but it hasn’t arrived yet. It was an hour or two ago.

I am not currently inclined to get an OEE windshield. Still hoping the dealership or manufacturer will do something helpful. (No need to tell me that’s crazy.)

A picture of the OEE windshield markings.
A part number and who installed it.
"Installers" -- like who?

Good to hear an OEE is now available it seems.

I am getting my windshield replaced on Friday. When I contacted the service manager he explained to me that I have two options, OEM and OEE, as mentioned above. I asked what the difference was and he said essentially they are the same except the OEM has the Jeep in the bottom corner and are the windshields the JLs come with and the others do not. Since it is a new Jeep (and I am not paying for it) he suggested the OEM was the way to go.

Wonder if that OEE is Acoustic as the OEM is... I would like to see a pic of the OEE windshield markings.

No brainer... you made the right choice.

FWIW, on a '19 with ACC, glass is back-ordered. I'm still waiting on replacement glass after someone at the dealership scratched the heck out my windshield with razors and steel wool removing the shipping stickers. I was told 1-2 months (it has the heating array at the top for the ACC sensor).

Here's the glass info in case anybody ever needs it with a '19 and ACC:

Do NOT let Safelite tell you it's the same as another model number. It's not. They tried over and over with me, and the model they were referencing does not have the heating grid.

Local installer here in Colorado Springs. Windshield is holding up well. Was hit by a stone the other day and didn’t chip. So far, so good.

I never get any type of aftermarket glass for my cars. My insurance company argues with me every time and I have to make the same argument back. I always ask "is the aftermarket windshield the glass that came in my car when it was new?" Of course they answer no, and then I ask "why would you try to force me to accept something thats not what came with the car?" Their job after all is to put the car back to the way it was, and any insurance rep that tells you that you have to pay the difference is just trying to scare you, as that is not allowed. Its their job to finalize your claim for the least amount possible, but if you stand your ground, they will give you OEM glass every time for no extra money.
