Hi all. My 21 JLU has a leaky passenger front right shock leaking. 21k miles, driven like a princess, and 3 months out of warranty. Little pi$$ed that a shock would go bad at this short mileage point. Ran it in for an oil change and the dealer tech pointed it out.

Any thoughts on the manufacturer of the shock? Happy to pay for labor to a fix but that is a really sad product and want to reach out.

Occasionally, on here I have seen some leak at lower miles. Jeep mfg thousands and thousands of shocks, so it does happen sometimes. Not an excuse, but.

You can buy used shocks on this forum dirt cheap and replace it yourself in about 10 min.

I would not be upset...I would look at it as an opportunity to get a nice new set of shocks by Falcon, Bilstein, Fox or any number of aftermarket shocks. shocks on JL's are super easy to install.

Just stunning that in 2024 they wouldn’t be built better on these. I’ve had many cars go 150k+

That said, I’ve done plenty of work but haven’t done shocks. Recommend a good vid out there? I don’t have any air tools or a lift

my 3 years was up in February.
I have a full set, front & rear, factory Sport shocks like new. Message me if you're interested. They are very easy to change out, you don't need a lift or air tools.

All 4 of our '23 JLUR shocks were replaced under warranty @ 20k miles due to excessive leaking. I took the warranty replacements off 100 miles later and sold them while still fresh (I installed a Bilstein lift). Luckily, good shocks are cheap on this platform!

With all that said, you may have some luck with a goodwill warranty repair due to your low mileage and the fact you're barely outside the 36-month window. Be nice & polite with your service advisor... I had a $1,200 repair covered on our 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk this way.

How’s the ride on the Bilstein lift?

They're super easy bolt on top and bolt and nut on bottom. I believe they are 18mm/each.

Edit: you do have to pull the fender liner back a bit to get to the top bolt, like others have said they're very easy to do on the Wrangler, much easier than any of my Hondas.

Absolutely love it! Better than stock; rides really nice. Zero complaints from my wife either and her commute is 75-miles roundtrip.

They offer SD & HD spring (HD w/winch) kits.

My wife earned 7 Jeep BOH trails badges on the stock Rubi suspension; tomorrow will be the first excursion off-road with the Bilstein setup (Bistein lift + Bilstein steering damper + Mopar LCAs).

So did my 21JL, OEM monotube "Heavy Duty Suspension with gas Shocks"- same shock, same mileage 21k it's being repaired under CPO warranty.

Seems like ~20k is the magic mark for these things... I believe they're made by Tenneco, which is the parent company of Monroe.

Stock shocks are garbage anyway, the sports have less than a 6" stroke up front. So yourself a favor and upgrade. Even rubicon take offs are a big improvement but I ditch those almost immediately too. You can fit a shock with almost double the travel at stock height, why run cheap, underdampened, short stroke junk period? Or out of warranty especially? Why people want to replace the factory junk with more factory junk? The stock f150 shocks on the work truck are just as bad. The 15 miles of dirt and washboards out to our property was brutal yesterday and had me missing the fox 2.5s on my mojave in the worst way. Felt like it was going to shake apart and the shocks seemed to stop dampening at all half way in. $40k+ rigs with $30 shocks, makes sense....
