I'm brand new to the Jeep world and have a question about the winch I just had installed. In the Maintenance section of the manual it says that monthly I should cycle the winch by powering out 15 ft, free spool out another 50 ft, then respool with at least 1000 lbs tension on the cable. My question is- when you do this how do you achieve 1000 lbs on the cable if I'm just sitting in my driveway?

Attach is to another vehicle that has its parking brake on, preferably with someone else in said vehicle with their foot hard on the brake. Use your remote to pull your winch cable in while you have your foot slightly into the brake or your parking brake partially engaged, just enough to hear your winch start to sweat.

You can also hook your winch to a tree with a tree saver strap, or if you want to have everyone looking at you funny in a parking lot, go hook a tree saver to a fat concrete base that some parking lot lights have.

I hook to my truck or a street light in a parking lot. Set the parking brake so it adds friction but wheels still roll, winch it in. Is it 1000 lbs worth? Who knows. There may be a better way, I’m open to suggestions myself.

edit: what he ^ said lol

Technically, the rolling weight of a vehicle should be at or above 1000lbs, but, the intention is just to have the cable/rope wound tightly (but not extremely, like at maximum load, tight) in the drum.

if your has a small incline that will also work to add pulling resistance
