So two years ago while towing an elderly person's possessions from Washington State to Wisconsin I damaged my fly wheel in the stock clutch. The Rockies proved to be a bit too much. Rescuing the 85yo from the fires and smoke and chaos was paramount so I pushed the weight limit a bit.
Anyway, I limped around on a bad clutch ever since. The pandemic, handling my divorce, moving and getting a new job that was very demanding of my time meant the wrangler took the backseat.
In May I ordered the Centerforce clutch kit, not knowing about the backorder. As time passed it became more difficult to accelerate. Every drive away from home could be the one that saw the clutch go out. It limited my life, but I live a pretty simple one. As long as I made it work, gyms and grocery store I was good.
On August 1st I backed into my garage accompanied by a cloud of burning clutch smoke. The next day I had it towed to my mechanic. I cancelled my Centerforce order and was going to go with a stock clutch. Thankfully the vendor I ordered from didn't like my cancellation and had a new Centerforce clutch drop shipped to me overnight! I was so surprised!
Then it was a LONG waiting game. The shop was swamped and I had to wait my turn. Fortunately I life in a small town, and there is a bicycle trail that goes from near my place to my workplace. I spent the month biking and walking everywhere! I lost 14lbs! It was like I was 14 years old, all over again.
Yesterday, August 26th, I picked it up at 7am. I then had a lovely, short day at work so took her for a spin.
The new clutch is AMAZING. It's such a difference. After 40 years of using a stick, this finally felt right. It's firmer. First gear wants to really take off!
I took it down some of the trails near me. We don't have crazy rock crawling readily available so I went to the river valley. Lots of recent rain made for some fun puddles to splash through. I would put it 3rd, take my foot off the gas and it just tanked its way through everything without slipping once.
I can also get up to highway speeds easily. I love this upgrade.
Bonus, I encountered another Jeep stuck in the mud and got to do keep things.
