As I understand it, the Dealers have to pay a premium to be one of the favored "below invoice" crowd. It seems as if they change their demographic somewhat to a bunch more exposure. I have had dealings with Dan and Renee at Gupton about 45 minutes from my house and they are both laid back and awesome to deal with. With Tennessee taxes, I save about 7% on the difference and have thus far traded two vehicles in on a new Jeep and a Ram. The Jeep was a 2023 392 XR! Also don't forget the Tread Lightly affiliation which typically gives you another 1% discount! This saves you money, and is for a great cause!!!

I live in metro detroit and wasted quite a bit of time with our local dealers trying to get a deal to no avail. They pretty much suck at giving deals around here. LaFontaine was best out of locals with a tiny discount if I went through costco program.

I ended up ordering our 2021 Wrangler from Rouen Jeep south of Toledo and ended up around 9 percent off msrp (was 7 percent but they price protected against an increase that occurred during build). They were a joy to work with and I would highly recommend them.

We purchased our 2023 Wrangler from Gupton as that seems to be the name you see the most for offering great deals. Gupton was even better than Rouen, which is saying a lot. Got 9 percent of the 2023 as well.

If you want to avoid working with our local jokers, do yourself a favor and work with one of the much better dealers identified on this forum.
It really sounds like Detroit dealers are the worst. My friend is pretty high up at GM design and even he had to drive to Ohio to get a GM dealer to give him the time of day, the Detroit dealers didn't want anything to do with his business.

I just picked my Jeep up from Mitch on Wednesday could not have been a better person to work with. Was willing to work with our pick up schedule. Would def recommend and buy from them again.

Also consider your state's sales tax benefits with relationship to a traded vehicle before choosing an out of state dealer from which to purchase.

This is especially important if you are planning on selling your current vehicle out right to an individual or a dealer locally, then flying to one of the places out of your state for the new vehicle. This is important because many of those volume dealers listed on the post won't take trades. Devil is in the details here when working the best deal overall.

Ideally, find a dealer in your state that will go x% below invoice and take your trade. This could make a HUGE difference depending on your state's vehicle sales tax... to the point of negating traveling out of state to get that last 2%, etc off invoice.

ANY dealer should go 1% under invoice with a tread lightly membership (although some won't). Just that plus a boat load of sales tax savings could get your at or below the bottom line, total expenditure, price of a 6% below invoice place that you have to fly to and miss out on that tax advantage.

Also keep in mind that the margin on the '24's isn't as high as past mode years, if you're opting for one of the "X" packages where everything is lumped together (although the pricing has improved if you're wanting a lot of options). So you might not feel like you're getting the same % off MSRP that others have mentioned snagging in the past. Just the nature of the new pricing structure.

Good luck!

Was planning on making the drive but ended up shipping it. The dealer won’t do it. That’s understandable. Lots of risk there for them. So I filled out one of those forms online and got a bunch of quotes. Researched the companies and went with Fisher Shipping. Don’t believe the low ball quotes you get. They’re bait and switch. Jeep arrived on Sat 4/8. Started the paperwork and payment on Monday 4/10. Wired money on Tuesday. Finalized everything Wed or Thursday. Was picked up on Thursday and arrived to me Saturday morning. That was Maryland to Florida.
thanks for the tip with Fisher Shipping

Great advice thus far in the thread. I'm a Gupton fanboy here.

Once I figured out what I wanted, I sent my order to 10 dealers - 5 from Ratbert's list and 5 local dealerships. Gupton responded the quickest and with the best deal, so that's what I went with. Was kind of hoping one of the local dealerships would even come close, but they didn't.

Had the sales manager at the local Autonation just straight up tell me that if Gupton made that offer in writing (which they did) then I should go there cause he couldn't touch it.

Let me see if I understand this correctly, I can get an additional 1% off for joining Treadlightly.org with a $100 individual membership correct, and if I am getting the Suppliers Discount and the Great Lakes Discount that would be 2% under invoice + $1500 off?

I assume to FCA/Stelantis. Otherwise, why are not all dealerships afforded the same below invoice pricing opportunities? I was actually told this by a dealer in the area that did not offer these same deals and when I asked, this is what was explained to me?!

I always wondered how Kernersville had such a huge inventory and could do the deals that noone else could do. They always appeared to be a favored dealership... I really have no clue, but all my dealings with Peterson in Nampa, or Gupton in Tennessee have been consistent with this practice and Ratbert's list.

Best of luck.

I do not know what the Suppliers Discount is; I have not heard it called that. I used the chart that Ratbert provided to get the percentage off of invoice, and the additional (approximately 1%) off for the $100 investment (and 30 days) in Tred Lightly.

I tried roping in my local dealer who wanted no part of the good deals in this community. Their loss. Fortunately I didn't have to look far and got connected to Mitch@Ourisman. Seems to be one of the best dealers here. First time trying to buy out of state for me and so far has been a great experience.

All dealers pay the same price for the vehicle, FWP, and then get the same holdback. What differs is what happens after that in terms of how they run their business, and whatever other incentives they qualify for from the mfr. The one's on the sheet offering significant discounts over others, have simply made a commitment to offer the best price they can afford in their own business model and rely on larger volume.

So I suppose, in a sense, yes the volume dealers do pay for that privilege - but they pay for it by how they run their business, not a different tier of franchising not available to others.

Thanks for the knowledge. The thing that I have noticed about Gupton is that they do seem to have a great deal more inventory and it looks like there is a fair amount of traffic from folks from out-of-town. I have enjoyed dealing with Dan and Renee.
