I'm hoping this doesn't break any rules, but I am trying to gauge interest on a project that I am working on. My name is Brogan, I am currently an aerospace engineering student in college, and I have always been interested in cars and off-roading. I would go off-roading with my dad in his Toyota FJ Cruiser all the time when I was a kid and going to Hollister Hills with our Jeep buddies is one of my favorite memories. One day I would like to own and build an early generation Jeep myself (YJ or TJ).

Enough about me. I am currently designing a product and am wondering if you guys would find this useful. This is not an ad, and I do not plan on making much money on these, this is just something that I would find useful and cool myself that I think others may like.

What is it? A 25 by 16cm piece of laser engraved 1.2mm 430 stainless steel with information for your car. Torque specs, common bolt sizes, common driver types, oil coolant and transmission fluid levels and types, and more general info about the car. There have been many times when I have had issues where I am somewhere without service and need info for my car. This aims to help in those situations without being as clunky or convoluted as a traditional owners manual. The list of common bolt types and sizes is also useful for at-home maintenance on the car as you can get everything ready beforehand and know exactly what you need, (I can't count the number of times I've confused an allen head with a spline drive because I'm not sure what kind the car uses and almost stripped it.)

I will include the cad files of the designs I have made, and I would absolutely love to hear any feedback you guys have about this. I want to know if you find this useful, and more importantly what other information you would want on this. This first batch will be more broad focusing on all types of Wrangler JLs, but hopefully if demand is high enough we will be able to get much more specific, and branch out to more models, cars and brands in the future. If you feel like this is something you are interested in buying you can email me at [email protected] . And I would love to answer any questions you guys have.

Sounds like a cool idea. I’m not sure I would buy it, but I wish you luck. My Dad was an aerospace engineer so I know your classes are no joke. Just a very minor suggestion, for knuckle heads like me maybe use inches rather than centimeters in your descriptions.

Thank you very much for the advice. Yeah the classes are not the easiest 😅. I debated on using metric or imperial or both, and ended up kind of using a mix around the design, but I will definitely reformat and add that.

This can be added, I just wasn't sure which was more popular.
The 4-door is about 20x more popular than the 2-door (3 to 4% of Jeeps sold). I'm not saying to exclude the 2-door variant, just giving a heads-up to how miniscule that market is.

  • A Jeep is not a car, it's a Jeep
  • Seems big, what if you could fold it into a mini jeep with specs on hood, top, sides, bottom, etc.
  • Add a bottle opener on the corner?
