Hey guys,
Hope everyone is doing well. My Jeep JLU Rubicon is now a year old and I’ve been driving in the desert lately. It’s so much fun and I’m hooked. I’m based here in Dubai so dune bashing is more common here than rock crawling.

I’m planning to upgrade my wheels and my options are the Teraflex Olympus, KMC beadlocks or Method 7 series (beadgrip).

I’m leaning more on the Teraflex as they are cheaper than the KMCs but a lot heavier. Anybody here who has them and can you tell the loss of power? I lighter set up is very nice on the dunes. The KMCs are out of my budget at the moment.

I run as low as 12psi sometimes (14-15psi mostly).

Are the Methods good enough? Thanks in advance guys.

Cheers,

Wendell

I would also look at Icon Alloys Rebound Pro or Recon Pro's. About 32lbs (14.5kg) and they have mechanical bead retention, If the Recon Pro's were available when I got my wheels I would have gone with them. I wanted rash rings as most of my off-roading is in the rocks. here is the states wheels with Beadlock rings are not legal for street use.

I have the TeraFlex Nomad wheels and the built-in rapid deflator is awesome, works well, and used a lot. For that reason I voted for the TeraFlex Olympus option above.

It’s legal to run beadlocks here for street use so not an issue. I’ve looked at the ICON Rebound Pros too. Half the price of the Teraflex or KMC. Watched some reviews in YouTube. I just don’t see people using them here. I’ll research more about them. Thanks!

If you aren't going into single digits you are wasting money and effort on beadlocks.
Thanks. I would go to single digits if i could as it would be better for super soft sand. Which is why I’m really considering beadlocks.

And you've looked into the legality and maintenance aspects, like retorqueing 96 bolt heads on what feels like an all too often schedule?

Thanks! I really like the Teraflex Olympus TBH. I’m just concerned about the weight and would like to hear from those who’ve tried them. The Nomads look sweet too but i might just go with the Methods if i don’t go with beadlocks.

Yes I’m aware of all of that. They’re street legal here. And i don’t mind the added maintenance. Thanks.

I voted for KMC but I have on my current build the Teraflex. I tried the TF and there aren't any issues, I just like the appearance of the KMC and choices. Stupid reason but other than that, I don't see any benefits from one wheel to another.

Bought the TF as I already owned a couple different sets from KMC on past rigs (grenade crawl and riot), regret not going tank beadlocks on my current rig.

Have run beadgrips on my gladiator at 12lbs with no issues. But going in single digits, I would definitely do beadlocks, not saying beadgrips cannot do it, I just feel better with beadlocks.

Bad timing tho... I just bought a set of KMC for $399 a piece during this past Black Friday sales. I considered the Teraflex but the weight was ultimately what drove me to KMC. The sales price made it a no brainer. KMC runs buy 4 get 1 free sales, or something equivalent, during holiday if you can wait.

They are still sitting in the garage waiting for new tires when budget allows.

Thanks! So you’re running the Teraflex Olympus beadlocks now right? Have you felt any difference in acceleration considering they weigh about 7 kgs more per wheel than the KMCs and other beadlocks?

Thanks! Yes it’s really the weight of the Teraflex that’s making me consider other wheels. It’s almost double than most.

I can't say that I feel any difference as the KMCs were on my previous jlurd and now the TF is on my 392 build. I did regear to 4.88 from 3.73 on my newer rig as there was a substantial difference on 38s getting off the line. I would venture to say the difference from weight is more negligible than the appearance of what "most" people are after.

Other advantages of the Nomad are a knurled inner edge to help the tire stay on the wheel at low tire pressures and inexpensive removeable/replaceable black nylon rash guards if you plan to drive it in the rocks.
