Need help determining shocks

Hey guys, need help determining what shocks to choose to replace my current ones.

I have a 4 door 80th anniversary that I swapped rubicon springs and shocks onto with leveling spacers on the front.

Pretty sure at least one of my rubicon shocks is shot so I’m looking to just replace all 4 shocks. Currently looking at Fox 2.0 performance series IPF shocks. Should I stick to the 0-1.5” ones, or do I need to go up to the next size for length?

Most of my driving is on road, a little off roading but nothing crazy and no crawling.

Hey!...

One way is to measure the current static distance (bolt to bolt) where the shocks go, and from the shock model dimensions table choose a shock that fits while allowing roughly 2/3 of the travel to extension, and 1/3 to compression.

For example..say you have 20" bolt to bolt...choose a shock roughly 17" min / 26" max.

Thanks for the info! My fronts are 20” and the rears are 22” bolt to bolt.

Can you help me understand your calculations though? For 20”, 1/3 is about 6-7” so wouldn’t that mean 13”-14” min and 32-33” max?

And I actually just realized I can find the rubicon shock compressed and extended lengths online and match it up to those.

Hey!

The 2/3 extension, 1/3 compression is from the shock travel stroke...not the bolt to bolt distance.

Look for something roughly 16-26 for front and 18-28 for rears.

A 32-33" max length shock is very, very unlikely to be able to compress to anywhere near 13-14". A 32" shock would be for a 4" + lift and it would likely have a 19-20" compressed length.

Thanks, both. Yea I wasn’t suggesting finding a shock with those dimensions, was just confused on the calculation.
