Can anyone with an XR comment on a need for front mud flaps? Are the larger tires throwing up rocks/dirt onto the doors/hinges?

On both my JK and JL, the front tires throw a lot of stone in to the rear hinges and rear fenders. My hinges are chipped to bare metal, and the rear fenders look like 60 grit sandpaper from stone impacts. That said, I’ll never run flaps. It’s just added risk for fender damage when they get pulled under the wheels while reversing in deep mud or snow. The body damage is just character, and a trait of having tires protrude from the side of the vehicle.

Yes you need flaps. Rock Blox XLs work well and line up perfectly with the XR’s flare extensions.

This won’t stop all chips — your rear fenders are gonna take a beating pretty much no matter what — but it does greatly reduce them on the doors and hinges.

Before I spent $ on mudflaps I'd get the hinges & rear flares wrapped in clear film. I've seen mudflaps get torn up pretty quick when off-roading.

+1 for the Rokblokz. They attach with quick release thumb screws for easy removal if going off-road. I've had a JKUR and a 2019 JLUR and never tried front flaps but it's inevitable that the hinges and rear fenders will get chipped. I installed these over the weekend and figured I'd give them a try at least in the winter with all of the salt, snow and ice.

I have currently a 2022 Rubicon with the extreme recon package currently in shipping, I had these with my 2020 2dr Rubicon, just wondering in the xl size will they work with the plastic bumpers, I will be replacing my plastic bumpers with aftermarket ones, so I am not sure will they still work, my 2020 Rubicon had the factory steel bumpers they definitely worked with that one
