I am thinking of making some for my JLUR for when we go to Alaska. We tow a camper and I am looking to not destroy the camper from mud and rocks being kicked up on to the camper.

Pics of camper that are towed in Alaska. I suspect that I will do a couple thousand miles of dirt roads.

Note, the above vehicles all have their tires inside of the fenders. Mine are not like that. I have a -3.5 off set wheel and get a lot of tire poke.

I have metal inner fender liners. I am thinking about buying bulk mud flap type material and rivet nuting

the mud flaps to the Jeep inner fender liner creating a mud flap that I can easily put on and take off. I would only be using them at slower speeds on the long dirt road sections in Alaska and Canada. I am thinking that the mud flap would go from the top of the middle of the fender to a couple inches off the ground. So with 37s on it will be a long mud flap.

For a reference, there is 414 miles of dirt road to Dead Horse Alaska. For a total of 828 miles plus to include any off shoots and so on.

Then, (94 miles) up to Tuktoyaktuk (Tuk for short), connecting the rest of Canada to the Arctic Ocean. So another 200 or so miles up and back to Tuk in Canada. Making for 2000+ miles of dirt road travel.

Any advice or insight to my plan? I can also if needed drill into the stock plastic fenders as I have two sets of stock Rubicon fenders at home that I can put on when I get home.
For going to Tuk on the Dempster, I believe it is 225 miles just to Eagle Plains (and the first place on the Dempster to get gas), and then from there you're only roughly half way to Tuk.

I drove to Inuvik before the road to Tuk was open driving a built 98 Jeep ZJ towing a trailer. Jeep didn't have mudflaps, and the trailer took a beating. You definitely want mudflaps.

We actually had gravel kicked up by the rear tires bouncing off the front of the trailer and hitting the Jeep's rear glass and putting small pits in the glass.

I think flaps are useful for any Jeep driven off the pavement. I don't pull a trailer so I only put on front flaps to keep my doors, hinges and rear fenders from getting destroyed. I used Weathertech. In my research I remember seeing a flap that would cover tires that stick out beyond the fenders, could have been the RoxBlox.

I’m running roxkblokz xl and they are not the right thing for what you’re doing.

Great for Michigan dirt roads, but you’re going to need a lot more coverage like what others are suggesting on rok tamers.

Those work of the hitch, you can leave them at base camp.

The Rokblokz for the front may work but it’s really just going to kick the mud out enough to blow back on the trailer.

Could you mount some kind of DIY flap to a bar, and mount that bar to the bumper, so it could come on/off as one piece?

Here is what I'm running on the front. I'll have a similar setup on the rear when I'm done with the bumper fabrication.
These are standard semi-truck mud flaps, cut down to size - 3/8" thick. They are drilled through and bolted to a mini step I have bolted to the stock rock rails. The steps were actually built for the mud flaps - low and wide enough to keep them from blowing in the breeze too much - I wish I had used riv-nuts. Next time.
The steps turned out great as "steps" - I can stand on them to wash the windshield, tie my boats onto the roof racks, etc. Plus a handy spot to sit and tie my shoe.
The top of the mud flaps are slid up between the inner fender and the new step - this keeps mud and debris from running down the back, gives them plenty of support, yet they still fully flex with no damage if I were to hit a rock, log, critter, etc. I've never been a fan of the rigid aftermarket flaps for that reason - if you whack 'em, you wreck 'em.
They've been on for a couple months and working great. Looks like I'll be able to cut back on my Jeep washing from seasonally to annually.

Check AK laws. I remember when I lived there 98-08 they would issue tickets if rigs with oversized tires did not have mud guards in place. It was not a concern to me at that time so I'm unsure of the specifics behind it.
