Hello everyone,
It seems my driver's side LED headlight is stuck on high beam only. The passenger side headlight goes from high to low beam but, the driver's side stays on high beam regardless of what I do with the light stalk. I was wondering if anyone had experienced this and if there was a solution that didn't involve replacing the headlight itself? Thank you in advance.

Not much of an electrical guy, but maybe a wiring issue? Is there a fuse for just the headlights? I would start there. Make sure fuses are seated properly and not blown (fixes a surprising amount of issues on these JL’s). And then trace the wiring the best you can to make sure there are no abrasions.

Hopefully you don’t need a new headlight!

That seems odd. The failure could be in the headlight itself, a short in the harness leading to the headlight, or a failure in the BCM (Body Control Module)

This could get expensive.

The diagnostics go two different ways.

1. You haven't touched anything and the vehicle is box-stock. In that case, take it to the dealer and have them sort it out.

2. Like a handful of others on the JLWranglerForum, you've retrofitted LEDs onto a JL that originally had halogen headlights. In that case; I'm afraid you're on your own and it's gonna be between you and your digital multimeter to sort it all out, starting at the headlight connector.

If it's a middle ground, and you have some other electric toys you've added to the Jeep, you may want to consider disconnecting them before taking the Jeep in, so the service writer or technician can't blame them for causing the problem as a way of avoiding having to do a troublesome and potentially time consuming diagnostic.

As always, this is advice on the Internet, and it may be misleading, incomplete, wrong for you, or just wrong. If you experience blurred or double vision, consult your physician, optometrist, ophthalmologist, or veterinarian.

I unfortunately retrofitted them. I purchased the headlights used so it is possible they went bad overtime or during shipping. Everything seemed to be OK until I noticed the DS high beam issue the other day. Thanks for the advice.

I’d double check that the issue side headlight is actually not just aimed wrong making appear to be in high beam mode constantly. And if that’s not the case then try double checking all connections to the side with the issue. Especially the grounds to that circuit side.

Easy to diagnose

Take the other side headlight and connect to the wire hardness on the bad side. If you have the same issue, it’s not the headlight.

Alternatively, if you take the bad headlight and plug it into the other side, does the problem continue?

If the problem persists in both sides,
Or if the good headlight works as intended I both sides. Then you have a bun headlight.

If the problem corrects itself when switching to the good side, or if the good headlight goes bad on the bad side, then it’s something with either the wire look or the computer

Also, is the height beam indicator light on in your speedo?

I will give that a try here in a few days. No, the indicator is not on.

Ok that probably means there isn’t a short in the wiring but not 100%. Typically in older vehicles a short would trigger the indicator light. With these fancy new computers it’s possible it wouldn’t I guess. Either way, switch one of the headlights and see if the issue is corrected or persists.

That would lower the odds that there's a BCM (body computer module) issue. During your testing, check the connectors very closely. If there's a pin to pin short, it may be visible. Also, did you add the halo extra wire? If so, double check that you have it wired properly on that side that has the issue.

No, I did not add the wire. I used all the connections from the factory. I will definitely be on the look out for it.
