Makes me wonder if this is a tactic to push more sales for the current model auto's. Then a change of mind and saying "just kidding". Final edition but not so final edition.

Man, don't let people like @TheRaven hear you say that! The full of shit part especially, since shit would screw up the accuracy of their "calibrated butt sensor"!
Here’s the thing, man. My butt dyno isn’t delicate at all, and I can still feel a major difference around town at 7,000 feet. It’s like beer versus Scotch. Not hard at all to tell the difference.

Right...because some member in some thread about the 3.6l said so. Ok. The post above this has a another member saying otherwise. I guess that's checkmate for you then.
Nope, because the tool that tracks number of replacement engines (or major components) said so, in a screenshot. Big difference between that and someone scared of turbos anecdotally making a claim.

It aids in packaging I think. If you don't have to worry about space under the engine for a traditional oil filter housing, you can get super creative with packaging, especially in FWD applications.

It does make oil changes stupid easy and clean too though, to be honest. Just drain, undo the filter housing, swap paper filter elements, close the housing, close the oil pan plug, and fill.

But yes, a wildly complex engine for being naturally aspirated.
Meh, I just did my first oil change on the 2.0. Wasn’t hard at all, and I actually like that you’re replacing a full metal filter housing, rather than just sticking paper into the plastic housing.

Of course, Subaru has the best solution here. Metal filters and yet soooo easy to change.

Certainly possible but he is a pretty hardcore Jeep/wheeler guy and seems to be an honest legit type of guy. I just have my fingers crossed. He said the 4 cylinders have a lot of issues as the mileage goes up. I'd get either one and have no dog in this fight. The motor I really like is the V8.
I think the biggest load of horse crap nonsense is that they never offered the 5.7 hemi in the Wrangler.

I've been told the same thing by more than one such qualified individual...unfortunately what qualified people who actually exist say is not admissible here in an internet forum discussion. Only things that random internet personalities who may or may not even be real say are actually admissible.

While I understand the concern around plastic in such a location, many other makes have done the same thing very successfully - Cadillac, for instance, has done this for a long time without a single issue. The problems with the housing in this case are due to the designer, not the material.

Being curious, I've monitored the powertrain pricing for the JL-gen Jeeps ever since placing my factory order in Sept. 2020. The 850RE, for example, has in isolation cost between $1,500.00 and $4,000.00 during the intervening four years, depending on the engine with which it's paired (the 2.0T or the V6.)

It's my considered opinion that FCA and now Stellantis use such pricing as a tool to incentivize sales of certain powertrain combinations. There's little reason that the 8-speed transmission, unchanged between then and now, should have such large swings, down and up and back down again, absent undisclosed reasons for it.

It's the same weight as the 6.4 though, with less power. So... why?

Because it would have been a great engine in the Wrangler, and should have cost a lot less than the 392. What I think he’s saying is that they should have offered the 5.7 for the same upgrade price they did in Grand Cherokees. Something on the order of $3,500 to $5k. The take rate would have been enormous.

If lower priced, I could see it. But only if you could get it in a 2 door ;)

Will the idea is is that they don't try to sell it for twice the price like they did with the 392.
