Because it would have been a great engine in the Wrangler, and should have cost a lot less than the 392. What I think he’s saying is that they should have offered the 5.7 for the same upgrade price they did in Grand Cherokees. Something on the order of $3,500 to $5k. The take rate would have been enormous.
Absolutely. Engine choices should have been the 3.6l or 5.7l at launch, switching over to the 2.0l and 5.7l at some point later on. We could still have the diesel and 392 as lower volume options. This seems like such a simple no-brainer but clearly FCA feels like it makes more sense to have two very different engines making almost the same power as options. Having been through both a 2.0l and 3.6l JLU and seeing what FCA considers production-ready design and construction, I can't say that i'm surprised...just disappointed.

It aids in packaging I think. If you don't have to worry about space under the engine for a traditional oil filter housing, you can get super creative with packaging, especially in FWD applications.

It does make oil changes stupid easy and clean too though, to be honest. Just drain, undo the filter housing, swap paper filter elements, close the housing, close the oil pan plug, and fill.

But yes, a wildly complex engine for being naturally aspirated.
But you are obsessed with men's posteriors...so...

Not to mention making it SUPER easy to do an oil change.

Ahh yes the insanely complex task of changing oil filters.

Just messy. The one downside to it is the oil seep as you're unscrewing it.

I dunno I guess if the only good thing about an engine vs another is that the "oil changes are cleaner and easier" its like having a dog that likes to chew all of your stuff, bites you when you pet it but "its poops are small" so its obviously worth keeping around.

I need a dog that breathes at 20,000 ft though, so that's the one I got

You also already have a big hole under the engine actively pouring oil out of it so its not like that bit of oil coming from the filter doesnt have anywhere to go. When you have to have such a small thing to try and elevate your choice over another youre kinda grasping at straws.

Tell the class you haven't been paying attention AT ALL without telling us you haven't been paying attention at all.

I'm fairly confident you were the one bragging about your butt, not me. I'm merely mocking it.
You are mistaken. It wasn't even me that coined the term.

Here’s the thing, man. My butt dyno isn’t delicate at all, and I can still feel a major difference around town at 7,000 feet. It’s like beer versus Scotch. Not hard at all to tell the difference.
Agreed. It's pretty damn obvious...to most of us at least.
