Moab capability

What would people think if FCA had priced the 707 hp Hellcat over $10k cheaper than the 485 hp Scat Pak?

Mass confusion, just like Moab.

Try comparing the Rubicon similarly equipped to what a MOAB comes with as far as the added options. A Rubicon how I would want it would be less expensive than a MOAB yes, but thats because I'm not springing for the color match hard top or leather or the bigger radio... ect. Load up a Rubi with all the options a MOAB comes with and it will still be more expensive.

When I started comparing models, the Moab didn't make much sense to me either. The way I optioned the Rubi and the Moab, the price was about the same. Then I learned more about the equipment such as LSD, locking diffs, transfer cases (select-trac vs rock-trac)., how they work, pros and cons and realized the Moab fits the majority of my intended use. Plus I liked the looks of the Moab more than the Rubi (can't stand that red dash). Bottom line, I don't live where I can easily and often get to extreme rock-crawling fun. I wish I did, but I don't. And the Moab does very well at anything short of serious rock crawling. It should do pretty good at moderate rock crawling if you know how to use the equipment to it's fullest. And the Moab is slightly better suited to dicey 4-hi type four-wheeling that we in the Midwest encounter most often. So, that's how I made my choice. As others have said, it just depends on how you plan to use it.

The mall crawling was what I do lol. I'm no goat, so I don't need to cling to a side of a mountain and teeter on a rock! The Rubicon is just overkill for my needs of grocery getting and back roads fun. I personally love all Jeeps and I love the look of the MOAB. Your basic Sport will scare the hell out of you, so yes a MOAB is very capable like the others have said! Just get naked and have fun

You're talking about value, that's different from capability. You can option up a Sport to over $50k

@OP - we've had our MOAB for almost a month now. We've taken her off road 3 times, on the nearby trails in AZ. The MOAB is great, and quite capable, as others have noted. Our style is not rock crawling. If it was, we'd definitely have gone the Rubi route.

The MOAB is my Wife's daily driver, (I have an F-150 4x4). She loves it! Plus, we both love the stock MT tires. Do they make noise? Sure they're a little louder, but it's a Jeep man! Family and friends who've ridden in it have nothing but compliments.

Must have missed those posts... the ones on mall crawling were made by Sport owners (of whom I hold in utmost respect Poking fun at MOAB's is pretty common place but it's (mostly) in good fun. Granted there are a few with Rubicon blinders on but (like you said) ignore them.

I for one like the MOAB package and had it NOT been more expensive than my Rubi I might have gone that way... although lockers and the electronic sway bar disconnect were high on my list of priorities.

For a majority of owners you buy what you like... not what you need (since EVERY Jeep can do more than what most ask of them). If MOAB checks your boxes then that's the best for you.

My nephew actually commented that he was shocked at how little noise they made compared to the aggressiveness of the tread. Sure there's quieter, but I kinda like 'em too!

Yes,I plan on retiring in the next 5yrs,I consider this to be my retirement vehicle,the only off-roading I plan on doing if any would be mild,like I said this is my dd.

I'll admit that I got pretty irritated about some anti-Moab comments a while back (serious or not) but I have since learned to just take it all as humorous. It's what I decided on after weighing a lot of variables and options and although it would be nice to have a few of the Rubicon features, I'm more than happy with my choice. No Regerts!!!!

Actually it wasn’t you. But like I said, Moabs are a viable choice for some people. I love all Jeeps.
Well there are a few regional style customs I don’t like.
I like the look of the Moab, but I drive a Rubi. I’ll never do major rock crawling. Why a Rubi then? Because I always wanted one. Capability wise, a Moab would have fit me fine, but they weren’t available when I ordered last year, and have more bells and whistles than I want.
Study the forum and the Jeep site. Pick what fits you best and enjoy.
