Moab beginner trails

So you guys have forced me into planning out a couple days in Moab. Thank you for that by the way

I’m trying to do some research using TrailsOffroad and onx. What I’m looking for is some beginner trails. If you will that are safe in that I don’t want to risk of body damage or scraping. I’ve been off road before, but it’s been years. I’ll be taking this trip solo and looking forward to seeing the scenery.

For reference, I know the Jeep is way more capable than I am comfortable with. For reference it’s a 2024 392 with the XR package.

Depending on when you go you can hook up with people out there and tag along with them. Poison Spider and Fins n things seem to be some of the easier trails. Top of the world is a good one. Onion creek is very scenic too.

I’ll be out there in August, still looking for some others to tag along.

Great book to read ahead of time and enroute. Your Jeep and you can handle any medium trails easily with some guidance from others. If you are doing FIns, then do Hell’s Revenge on the same journey.

Well's book is very informative, highly recommended. Gemini Bridges is another scenic drive and easy.

I have done over 50 of the trails listed in this book. I think a person does themself a dis-service by not using this book to plan and run trails in Moab.

I always say Fin&Things and Hells Revenge for the first trail to run in Moab if you have never been to Moab. It will help you learn the capabilities of your Jeep. The obstacles look challenging but you most likely will not spin a tire, Maybe stay off Hells Gate the first trip.

For easier trails with great views, Onion Creek, Chicken Corners, Long Canyon Rd. Shaffers Switchback Gemini Bridges Willow Springs Rd into Arches, Steel Bender if you are a little more adventurous as the days go by. Long Canyon Rd. also has nice views.

Just don't try and over do it. Take it easy the first time out, but push your comfort zone a little bit. You have a very capable jeep. Maybe near the end of your time run up Poison Spider.

it is pretty easy to find people to wheel with. Go to the trail, see someone with a Jeep and say, hey can I hang with you guys on the trail? 90% of the time they will be open o it.


Just buy the book now so you have it. It is worth every penny.

Out of the trails you mentioned, Fins &Things is the most difficult, by quite a bit. The others are mostly just glorified dirt roads.

Fins is “easy” by Moab rock crawling standards; but there are still some areas where you could get into trouble. If you’ve been in 4low and know how to handle your jeep it’ll be fine, but if you’re a complete Novice, this is one where tagging along with someone else is a good idea. Like was said above, look for someone at the trailhead with a jeep and ask if you can hang with them, they’ll almost certainly say yes.

Another good beginner’ish trail is 7mile rim. Definitely check that one out.

From what I understand there’s a grocery store in town where most people meet up in the morning before runs. If you show up in the AM you’ll probably find a group of folks every day that are running trails.

Recommended trails:

• Onion creek (scenic)
• Gemini bridge (scenic)
• Fins and things (scenic and easy)
• Chicken corner (on the way back from Gemini bridge)
• Hells revenge (just skip hells gate)

Working off TrailsOffroad primarily would you say the time estimates that are listed are fairly accurate. I’m assuming that it would be longer than what stated but just trying to get a generalized idea. If it matters most likely be going on weekdays sometime in mid May.

Looking at Fins and Hell’s Revenge both at 4hrs, I would say that is conservative and allows multiple stops, not pushing it.
