Looks like it was a soft top optioned. They put a hard top on it later. Weird
True. How easy it to install a soft top if a JL Wrangler comes with the hard top from the factory?

That’s an easy one. Just take the hardtop off and put the softtop on. No extra wiring or switches. Just put on the door surrounds and the 2 rollbar brackets and it mounts right on.

Not sure or why it happened. Since it wasn’t caught at purchase time. I’m not sure what can be done. I would check with dealer. Good luck on that. But something happened along the way

Excellent. Then you are ahead of the game. BTW I think the rear washer wiper is overrated anyway. I never use mine when the hardtop is on.
I use mine all the time in NE Ohio. The back glass is constantly getting hammered by rain and road dirt. I've often wondered if something could be added to change the airflow to get less splash on the back window.

I live on a dirt road so trying to keep the back glass or the camera clean is futile. I am just use to using the mirrors.

Usually the dealer makes you sign something when purchasing, a "We owe" statement. If there's nothing in writing, they probably don't owe it.

In 12 years of hardtop Jeep ownership, I've never really used the wiper or the defroster. There isn't much of a view out the back window anyway. You're not missing much.

Come to think of it, I never even took the hardtop off my JK that I owned for the first 11 years. Took the freedom panels out a number of times, but not too many. Way too much buffeting and other nuisance other than when just crawling.

In the OP’s case his Jeep purchased with 3000 miles on it would have been sold as used or, ā€œget what you getā€..

He did, he bought a Wrangler with a hard top, I would expect the hard top to be fully functional, but that's just me.
But he didn’t buy a Hardtop Wrangler. The price point on the window sticker is for a Softtop only.
None the less the Op stated he bought it with 3000 miles so that would be classified as ā€œusedā€. I’m sure he didn’t even pay that sticker price.

He bought a soft top Wrangler that has a hardtop that was put on aftermarket. The rig did not come with a "factory" hardtop. While it may be OEM is is no different than other mod done to a vehicle after it is sold.

Weird situation. Just discovered that our Jeep is missing the control to turn on and off the rear windshield wiper. The Jeep came with the hardtop from the factory, but is missing the control on the steering wheel stock where it should be. Anyone else experience a production mishap like this???
That's nuts!

When you have a vehicle like the Wrangler and it is sold used. Is the seller responsible for everything to be checked as new. People replace hardtop bolts, hood latches, bumper additions, fender additions. There must be an "as is" in the paperwork.

ā€œAs isā€ usually stated for vehicles that don’t include a vehicle safety inspection leaving that responsibility to the purchaser to have inspection, repairs and registration done.
For used vehicles it is up to the buyer to ensure they are happy that everything works before they sign the papers.

OP bought a Wrangler with a hardtop, there is an expectation that the thing works.

OP went to use the wiper and the mechanism is missing, it's plainly obvious he was sold a pig in a bag.

This is the problem when people sell off parts of Wranglers they don't use, or mix and match in a half ass manner, then resell misrepresented.

Yea I get it OP should have checked everything, one reason I would NEVER buy a used Wrangler, or advise anyone to buy one, too many things get "modded".

I'm amazed at the number of people who said they never used their rear wiper/washer.

If you live somewhere it snows it's mandatory after a snow when the splash back ends up making the rear window opaque.

If you have a soft top, no matter how much water you use, you will end up scratching that rear window to get the road deicer/gunk off. :(
