What’s your take on this versus the Clayton Offroad 2.5 kit? I know sometimes that’s like asking Coke or Pepsi but I’m about to pull the trigger.
It's probably going to be whether you like/want gold or black suspension components, they look near identical in build quality.

I still think a set of adjustable track bars would help out your issue.

Zero maint joints on the Clayton’s we’re the deciding factor for me. I spent years servicing Johnny Joints (and their equivalents) and it’s a hassle I wanted to avoid while my JL is a DD.

Yeah I'm going Clayton 3.5 Overland when I do it, the cost is up there but I have actually held some of their track bars (they are SERIOUS QUALITY) in hand and between that and the no maintenance joints its a no brainer for me. Their customer service had gone over and above for me in the past and I was really impressed. They are opening a new facility that is 6 times the size of the old one, si that also goes to show their following.

Also I prefer to stay with one mfg for ALL the parts so if there is something that doesnt seem right I have one point of contact.

Josiah did the steering get that much worse after the 37's went on the stock setup?

I am also going Clayton as I’ve had it on a prev Gladiator and can also attest to the quality of the parts. They make great stuff. They are also local to me here in CT.

Just ordered my 392 Overland+ 2.5” kit as I’m not going larger than 37s. @Clayton Off Road - Hopefully it ships quickly

No don’t take the last few parts ;) hmmm that’s a good point. I’m planning to give my wife all my take offs including tires / wheels. Wondering if the 2.5 or 3.5 is the right choice for me long term.

What do you think about these part choices?

In the age of the pandemic, it’s all about who places their order first :)

Parts list looks good. I personally would go for the FOX ATS steering damper (with the correct brackets from Clayton for the track bar mount and tie rod clamp from Fox) instead of the Roadmaster, but that‘s me.

I also chose to go with the Fox Performance Elite shocks for my setup. Overkill, but I like the adjustability and ran them on my Gladiator with great success.

After chasing steering issues for 3 years in my 2018 JLUR, my take is you can't overlook any component in the front end for contributing to loose steering. Jeep just did a marginal job on all of them, and in my case, missed the 1st version of the trackbar by a lot on the bushing hardness.

My list of priority for steering looseness is:
  • Trackbar
  • steering box
  • Balljoints
  • tierod & draglink
  • control arms
I also recall an issue with the steering shaft having a loose connection (in the collapsible section?) but have not seen this in mine.

Looks about right, but I would let others chime in for sure. I'm going with 3.5 to be done with it the first time. My last build I did it incrementally and wasted time and money. I should have done all the right parts and max lift all in one shot and been done with it and enjoyed the longterm.

Thanks for the tip. Why the ATS over the roadmaster?

That’s a good point especially if I want to go larger in the future it’s already done. Looks like the 3.5 is backordered though.

Yeah I don't want to get ahead of myself on the final tire size of 40's down the road but the 37" for the first step are so fully capable lets give them some room to flex and breath.

Yeah the 2.5” lift only gains an inch. What tires are you thinking? Not to derail the topic … haha

I’ve run the ATS before on my JLURD and it was great, so figured I would go with it again. I also happen to have one sitting in my garage.

37” KO2 for me
That makes sense! I just keep hearing great thanks about this exact center and it has me curious.
