I must say I agree with this. I often use CarPlay but I use the built-in nav as well from time to time. It is actually the best built-in navigation system I’ve used on a vehicle up to this point. The live updates are so recent and accurate that it almost competes with Google Maps in terms of traffic data and road issues. For a built-in system, it’s quite good.
What do you mean by "live updates"?

Tell me you don't know what Blackbeerry is up to these days without telling me you don't know what Blackberry is up to these days. ;)

(Hint, it's in the majority of vehicles on the road)
I know that, and my statement still stands!
just because they bought an existing OS doesn‘t mean they learned anything from being disrupted out of business like in 2007.

They didn't go out of business in 2007. Lol. They're still in business. Just not the cellular buisiness.

Granted I'm Canadian and holding some BB stock so I'm a little biased but they're still an innovative company. QNX and now IVY are the way of the future for sure.

Only because they bought QNX.

i think they did some great work, but they were either a one trick pony, or they got lazy.

The only “plus” I can see is having the built in nav come up in front of you on the instrument cluster. Google and or Waze does everything else and their real time traffic is far superior.

You aren’t wrong. The native navigation isn’t bad at all and it does have some good features. I use it along with phone based navigation like Google maps, Waze, etc. However a caution on purchasing updates: they may not actually be updated at all from what you have now. Before making a purchase check the date of the revision. Also, my experience in the past with TomTom and Garmin based native nav updates is that even if they are a more recent revision than what you’ve currently got, it may not contain any useful changes from what you’ve got now.

Also, if they could push the updates out like other software updates and charge me $20 I’d go for it.
For $20/year and push I’d do it too!! It does have some handy features but like most in-vehicle nav systems it’s shortcomings are painful.

I mean, I cannot for the life of me figure out who would pay for that in the first place given that these vehicles now have Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
I forget mine has Nav since I use Waze via Carplay wireless. Years back, Mazda did something similar with their Nav system which was a card that plugged into a slot in front of the shifter. I'm sure other manufacturers did something similar. It was good for 3 years worth of downloads and they wanted something like $100 for each subscription renewal. But you could also buy the same new up-to-date card that hadn't been registered to a VIN off Amazon or EBay for $30.

Could be they want to get into the subscription model like some other manufacturers. Didn't Toyota end remote start on new vehicles once they were 3 years old. They want customers to pay for a subscription.

I used to love WAZE, but for months I've struggled (unsuccessfully) to get the audio to function again. Anyone else experiencing this?

On board navs are not even worth the time to figure out the interface let alone updating them.

Ancient tech, like 7 disc players, headrest screens, satellite radio... feeling old.

It doesn’t have to be the either/or proposition that sone of you seem to view it as. I love digital music just fine. But I didn’t throw out my vinyl and still use it sometimes when the mood strikes me. If anyone has reasons why they don’t care for native navigation, that’s fine and it’s their right. I still like it and use it along with my phone based nav systems. For me they coexist just fine.

This is good, level headed advice. If only more people were as open minded…

I do think it's cool that if you use the uconnect for calls and navigation it dials down the blower so as to make the calls and voice commands more clear. I definitely think it would be neat if CarPlay had the same integration.
