Yeah, every day is a gamble. Its not undriveable, but its annoying.
did you get to borescope yours?
I'm looking at buying at borescope to see if there is contamination anywhere (specially on the grease on the in splines)

Jeep Wrangler JL Manual Transmission - Issues shifting into 1st & Reverse (Compilation thread) 1000013428

Yeah, I got all up in there. Release bearing gets in the way of seeing that side of the PP though. I snuck through the bell, then through a hole in the flywheel and was able to see the input shaft snout.

I have a bunch of pics I have yet to pull off my borescope.

I figured I'd post this in case anyone was interested. This is video from today just shifting through all the gears. Engine was on my Jeep was stationary.

At the moment it's pretty inconsistent. Sometimes it will still go into 1st without feeling like it is hitting a wall.

yup that's me at times, by now I can "feel" when it's going to go in and not and if not I just shift into 4th first and smooth sailing into 1st

That is exaclty the way I feel, its annoying.

I don't know if it's getting a little better, or if it's just me being thankful I don't have it as bad as a few on this thread? This thread has helped me learn to deal with it a little better.

Mine is still at the dealership, hopefully I'll here back by the end of the week. When I tried to shift (stationary) into first it would get blocked but if I did not release the clutch it would go into all gears smoothly but once I release the clutch and depressed while still being stationary it would get blocked.

Hope they have more knowledge than my dealership. When the manual transmission "expert" couldn't get the pedal back he called up Jeep support and they just told him to take everything out and put in a new clutch. I'm just glad I got it out of there before they could do any damage.

Same response I got from my dealer when I took it in. They said they had to return to OEM to be able to diagnose the problem. That meant recall. Told them that would lead to issues due to tire size and the software which led them to say it would be my fault and not theirs as my car is modified with bigger tires. Asked for my car back immediately. They also charged me $260 to “diagnose” the issue, which I later found out they should not have done since my car is still under warranty. Bunch of crooks at that dealer.

Getting my Jeep back today and the service writer said my shifting issue with first gear is due to the batteries being drained, so they replaced both batteries. I asked him how does the batteries affect the shifting ? He started not to make any sense so I just left it at that. Picking it up later on today.

That is scary. Did they replace under warranty? I mean, I wouldn't balk at some free batteries, but what an absolutely idiotic diagnosis and "remedy."

The batteries, of course. Why didn't anyone think of that. Glad it's an easy fix.

oof. That sounds like a similar situation with a guy from the recall group on Facebook. His Jeep was going into limp mode because of the 19A software and they told him it was an issue with his torque converter. 🤦‍♀️
